The experts on our roster read these two as different jobs. An essence is usually a lightweight hydrating layer that preps skin and helps what follows absorb, so it is judged on whether it plumps and layers well without feeling heavy or sticky. A mist is judged more on what it actually contains, since a spritz of mostly water evaporates and can leave skin drier than before.
