What the gurus are saying

This cream earns praise for staying lightweight while still hydrating properly, making it work both day and night despite looking thicker than it applies. Those with oily or combination skin find it soothing and easy to wear throughout the day, though anyone on the drier side may find it too insubstantial to meet their needs on its own. The ingredient list is straightforward, with heartleaf for calming and antioxidants, beta glucan for winter hydration, and turmeric to help with dark spots.

"I did quit using this heart leaf cream, not because it's a bad product but because if you are more on the normal to dry side of things I think this is just going to be too light for you. It certainly was for me. It's a beautiful formula, but you need a certain texture in your moisturizer and that ends up being personal, so [...] make sure you buy the correct moisturizer for your needs."

"It is their Heartleaf Calming Cream Tube. [...] I have been loving using this one throughout the day because of how lightweight it is. Initially, it kind of looks like it would be a thicker cream, so I started this thinking I was only going to be using it at night and then started using it during the daytime because of how lightweight it sits on the skin. But it has some really good ingredients. Of course, heartleaf, which is known for its skin soothing benefits and antioxidant power."

"You have Heartleaf, of course, in here again, which is not only a great antioxidant but helps calm and soothe the skin. Arginine. So you have all those really good deep hydrating ingredients along with Ceramides. I've only just started using this. It's been a couple of weeks. But as far as a nice moisturizer that moisturizes and hydrates me in the evening, this is a really, really nice one."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
