What the gurus are saying

This retinaldehyde formula earns praise for its moisturizing base, which softens the strength of the active. However, one expert flagged a key caveat: Allies of Skin doesn't publish the exact retinaldehyde percentage, so it's hard to know how potent the formula actually is or how it compares to other retinoids at similar concentrations. That means anyone shopping by strength alone may want to reach out to the brand directly before committing.

"Allies of Skin is having 30% off right now. This is a company I dip in and out of. They have very advanced formulas. They are on the pricey side, at 30% off this is a great time to either restock or give them a try. The first product I ever tried from them was their Retinaldehyde. They have a beautiful retinol formula. My son uses it. He actually needs a restock. So I'm going to pick that up for him."

"If you want more of an all-in-one type of product and have a really streamlined routine, I love the Allies of Skin Retinaldehyde. It also comes in 0.05 and 0.1 concentrations, but they've put it in a moisturizing base and combined it with a bunch of peptides, so you're getting kind of like a peptide and retinaldehyde product all-in-one. I feel like Allies of Skin has sort of mastered the multitasking product, and you're paying for it, but I feel like they're really good quality formulas."

"Plus they don't disclose percentage of retinaldehyde, so we don't actually know how effective this product is. It's a shame because they're trying to go to the effort. I mean at the front they've literally written four peptides plus ten antioxidants plus five brighteners plus encapsulated retinaldehyde, so it's like they're trying to show us what's in there, but not actually telling us if things are in the therapeutic index or not."
