What the gurus are saying

The heartleaf extract and its high concentration earn consistent praise for calming redness and reducing irritation, especially for sensitive and acne-prone skin, with a water-like texture that absorbs without heaviness and layers well under actives like retinoids. However, a notable split emerges: several gurus found the toner stung rather than soothed their irritated skin, and others noted it felt so watery it was difficult to apply without product loss, meaning those with genuinely reactive skin may want to patch-test first, and it works best for people with stable but sensitivity-prone complexions rather than actively inflamed barriers.

"I no longer have the Anua Heartleaf 77 Toner because it was just so expensive. It didn't used to be expensive, but it started getting super popular and the price crept up too much."
What's OUT vs IN: New Years Edition!
"Since the beginning of winter I finished off two bottles of this Anua heartleaf toner. I bought these a while ago, but if you know anything about me and this channel you might know that I love this product. I get about fifteen to twenty sheet masks worth of use out of each one of these bottles, so it is definitely better for the planet than buying sheet masks. I've always liked using it in this toner form, though I'm thinking about bringing in a stretchy serum alongside it to help build more of a barrier for my dry skin before I use my silicone mask."
BEST KOREAN SKINCARE OF 2024 (and of all time)
"For yet another year, I think this is the third year in a row, this toner is still my favorite. I don't think that this toner is for everybody, because I don't think any skincare product is for everybody, but for me there is something about this product that is so calming, and again think of my skin type, dry, acne prone, sensitive, it's a difficult skin type. So calming and yet very hydrating is a wonderful combination. I also love all the ways I can use this, you can put it in a spray bottle, you can use it to make your own sheet masks, you can use it to make your own toner pads. That just means this is a versatile product that my skin loves."
Skincare Empties to Celebrate the END of Summer!
"I found this toner through a Reddit recommendation years ago and fell in love with it. This is realistically one of my absolute favorite toners, that's why I keep plowing through bottle after bottle, because I love everything I can do with it. I make sheet masks with it, I make toner pads with it, I put it in a spray bottle, and the formula works really well for my skin type. It's one of very few viral products where I've been over here going it absolutely deserves it."
Skincare EMPTIES! Is Convenience Worth it? (May 2024)
"This is a long running favorite for me. I think heartleaf is an ingredient that my skin does really well with because it helps with inflammation, and I do have inflammation prone skin."
Is Anua Skincare Worth the Hype? 1-Month Review/Ranking
"I love this toner. This really does feel like it is helpful for people like me who deal with acne, but not just acne, inflammation too. Because heartleaf has these antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, I really think this is correct in calling itself the soothing toner, and I think it will really help people that deal with inflammation. It is also a hydrating toner, but let me be blunt, it's not the best for hydration, there are better products in my opinion. I've also seen some people say they experienced irritation from this, and when you look at the ingredients you do see some other plant extracts, I'd say something like the chamomile might be to blame there. The final reason I love this toner so much is because it's such a versatile product."

"I'm giving my pick for favorite calming toner to the Anua Heartleaf 77 Toner. This is a product that contains 77% heartleaf extract, an ingredient that is antioxidant, hydrating, and anti-inflammatory, which is a trio of perfection for my skin type. It doesn't stop there, it also has other extracts in it as well, plus some panthenol, which I love as an ingredient. You get a giant bottle, 8.4 fluid ounces. My favorite way to use this is as a quick mask, which prevents the product from evaporating and pushes it more into your skin, especially when my skin is irritated or I'm dealing with a breakout. That is where I really see the potential of this product, and why it remains to this day one of my absolute favorite toners."

"My recommendation in this category is Anua Heartleaf 77% Soothing Toner. This toner is formulated with high concentration of heartleaf extract and is designed to calm that visible redness rather than exfoliate the skin. It has a really lightweight, watery texture that absorbs really quickly and layers easily without feeling heavy. It's suitable for sensitive, acne prone, reactive skin and can be used daily even alongside retinoids. The key ingredients are heartleaf and hyaluronic acid."

"K beauty has my heart, and the rice bran extract in here plus niacinamide is wonderful for hydrating and brightening. There are three types of hyaluronic acid for multi weight hydration, and it also has a ceramide complex, but it's lightweight, milky, and less emollient than the others. It's going to be amazing for my oily skin girlies to combo skin who are wanting brightening and lightweight hydration without the heaviness, and it's truly a way for my oily and combo skin baddies to get that glass skin glow. But if you're looking for actual barrier repair, this is not going to be very functional for that. It's more of a brightening toner, not repair support."

"I follow up with a really great toner, this one by Anua is a K beauty toner that I love. I got this in Korea last year, this is all I have left, I have run through so many bottles of this, it's actually insane how much I go through this bottle, I need to repurchase. Toners are so great because they really bring your skin pH back and set the tone for the rest of your skincare."

A Chemist EXPOSES Korean Skincare: What's Actually Worth Buying 2025
"I had to restock my Anua products, I got the Anua Heartleaf toner. This toner is a must have if you're looking for a super soothing toner that really calms your skin, like truly, it is really well formulated with great extracts. It has the right molecules in it that are not going to be triggering to the skin, even for me and I have acne prone skin. It has great formulas in there to really help lock in the moisture, like acrylate crosspolymer, which is super hydrating, and glycerin as well, a strong humectant. It's a really great product if you're looking for a soothing toner that doesn't strip your skin and actually packs on the hydration for a long time."

"It's a great one and it's a simple product. It may just look like water because the packaging is very clear, almost looks like you're putting on water, but it's really lightweight. [...] It absorbs really nicely. It's very elegant, but at the same time, it's amazing how this clear bottle of water, if you will, really helps to rebalance your skin after cleansing. It helps to reduce irritation and the fact that it's really suitable for all skin types, sensitive and acne prone skin. Ingredient wise it contains 77% heartleaf which is a really popular K beauty ingredient that helps to calm and soothe redness inflammation while at the same time supporting your skin barrier. Panthenol and betaine which are gentle hydrating ingredients that really helps to keep the skin barrier moisturized and hydrated without adding heaviness or irritation. You can use regularly if you're super sensitive skin or use it if you have become sensitized because you just overdid it with retinoids or exfoliants. It's a product that works well for those who are sensitive and acne prone, and also works well with other products in your routine without causing that irritation."

"This is such a wonderful calming toner. If you have redness, you're easily irritated, this is the toner I would pick for sure. [...] It feels like water. So, it's incredibly lightweight. But that heartleaf in there is a plant extract that has a ton of flavonoids in it. So, that's going to be soothing. That's antioxidant rich. It's really there to just calm the skin down and allow it to tolerate things that you put on top of it."

"This is that typical superstar K-beauty toner, more popular outside of Korea than in Korea. I don't think it's worth the hype. I finished one bottle because I use it on all my clients, but I'm not going to repurchase it. Anua says it provides mild exfoliation, but I can't feel anything else from it. It makes dry skin a bit hydrated, but for oily or combo skin you can just pass on it. You can just tap it on and use it."

I Tried Every Viral Toner — Who Wins?
"It's supposed to be calming for your skin but I didn't find it that different from other watery toners. They say it's 77 percent Heartleaf but I don't see the good point about this. It's fine for all skin types, but don't expect too much, it's just more like a hydrating water. It also has exfoliating ingredients, so if your skin is sensitive and gets red a lot, using this every single day is not good for your skin barrier."
10 Viral Korean Beauty Products Fact-Checked: what worked and what didn’t
"According to social media the Anua toner is good for both exfoliating and hydration, but let me tell you the truth, no toner can do both, you actually have to pick exfoliating or hydrating. If you have sensitive skin and think all toners are the same and use the Anua toner every single day wiping it out with a cotton pad, it's going to be too much stimulus and you'll get more red. If you have oily or combo skin you can try it as an exfoliating toner in the summer, but if you have dry mature skin it's better to use a more hydrating toner instead."

Global No.1 vs Korea No.1 Skincare: Which is Better and Why?
"Anua's toner contains seventy seven percent heartleaf extract, which is great for soothing. It's a light, watery toner, more like water, so I only recommend it for oily or combo skin, dry or mature skin doesn't feel like it works no matter how many layers you apply. It's supposed to make your skin texture better too but I don't feel anything from that, it just feels like it's giving some moisture to my skin."
100% HONEST TikTok viral trending TONERS REVIEW // rec for every skin type
"I finally finished the bottle so now I can review it. If you have dry skin, just skip this one, it's basically water. I don't really understand why it became so popular, maybe because other Western toners smell too much like alcohol. I use it on my customers because it has no scent, it's watery, and it's easy to wipe onto your skin for secondary cleansing. It was really soothing and really mild, the most similar to micellar water. But compared to the Toko toner half and half, this one feels a little tacky and sticky. I gave it to my husband who has oily skin and he picked the Toko instead. A lot of reviews say it makes them break out, so if you're really sensitive, patch test it first. It's okay for oily skin, but if you really hate a little stickiness, the Toko would be better."
Chill&Chat: CYoung’s Live
"Anua's toner is just water, it does nothing. I don't understand why it's not popular here anymore, nobody uses it, it's only big on TikTok. People say it's just water, so it might be fine if you have oily skin, but I have dry skin and I keep asking myself why I'm even using it since it's just water."
I tried TIKTOK *VIRAL* Korean skincare… an honest review (Not sponsored)
"I just don't understand why this is popular, it's just water. The texture is very watery so it's inconvenient to apply with your hands, it's much easier to wipe it off your face with a cotton pad. Even after cleansing there can be residue left, so you have to cleanse once more. For those with thin skin or redness on the cheeks, if you keep rubbing your face with a cotton pad you become more red and your skin gets irritated. When I tested it on my face it dries out too quickly. There's no reason to insist on this one since there are so many other water type toners of similar quality, but if you have oily skin and want to use it to clean your face, it's a good deal, you can get it."

"It's supposed to soothe while simultaneously hydrate the skin. [...] It's very lightweight on the skin, it doesn't feel tacky or too sticky. Well, I guess there's a little bit, but not overly. It's very lightweight, so that's good because I am not a heavy toner person ever, but it does feel nice."

"I shared this for a soothing toner and I found this actually stung a lot and a lot of people agreed with me and had the same issue. I cannot stand the heartleaf 77% toner, it's a soothing toner that's stung my face like crazy, it's also too watery when I use it, I lose half the product down my arms. For a product for irritated skin it shouldn't irritate my irritated skin."

Skincare So Bad, I Had To Stop Using It! Stinging, Stinky, Flakey 😭
"It sounds like a nice toner. What I find bizarre, though, is [...] when I first started using this, [...] it stung. My skin barrier was a little bit irritated, so I put it to the side and gave it another go when my skin barrier was in a better position. But after about the first week, when my skin was getting a lot better, I started using this again, still stung. Two weeks later, stung. When my skin barrier is fully healed and I'm back to using actives, this stings. This stings my skin, and it shouldn't. The whole point is that it's soothing. It's also too watery that [...] you put it in the palm of your hands and it just goes all down your arms, or on a cotton pad the cotton pad just soaks it up. I've not had a nice time using this product at all."

"The viral Anua toner, I know we've all seen this on our For You page at least once by now. It's the number one toner on Amazon and in Korea. This toner has more of a watery texture and it's really good for sensitive skin, it just feels so soft and hydrating on your skin. I absolutely love this toner, like genuinely this toner has helped so much with my texture, and especially if you have acne prone textured skin this is going to be perfect for you. This is one of my Holy Grail skincare products at the moment, it's just so good. So if you haven't tried it out, try it out, because there's a reason why this is number one."

"This is one of my favorite toners to recommend because the success rate with this I think is going to be very high for a majority of folks. Heart leaf is one of my favorite ingredients not only for a soothing calming effect on the skin, it's a great anti-inflammation ingredient, it is an antibacterial ingredient as well, and that's what makes it so good for helping to gently clarify the skin. It's really good if you are congestion prone or acne prone. We've also got really great humectants in here, glycerin and Bane, and panthenol, which is a juicy watery plumping type of ingredient that supports the barrier layer rather than those really emollient creamy rich and nourishing types of ingredients. It's a lighter, more hydrating approach to barrier care. It comes together in a really nice watery thin lightweight type of texture."

[...] I didn't notice it helped with redness, I didn't notice it helped with irritation, but definitely didn't cause redness or irritation. [...] It has nice soothing ingredients, so that's nice. But I just, for as many five star reviews as this has, I was expecting to be amazed. Maybe my expectations were too high. In terms of performance, I wasn't impressed or bummed. The nice thing is for acne prone skin, there's no ingredients of note that would be problematic. It's going to be friendly for oily, dry, sensitive, and acne prone skin. [...] It's simple, and maybe that's the good thing. [...] Sometimes maybe just simple is good, so maybe that's what this is good for."

I've heard that it's great, there are over 5,300 sold, the price on this is really good. [...] I am very interested in trying this especially because it has sugarcane and grape, both of those can actually hold on to moisture and pull that moisture deeper into the skin, and as we approach winter, that's what I'm looking for."

"This toner has won the top-ranking toner and it won first place in the Olive Young Awards. Olive Young is a huge beauty retailer out there in South Korea. So for them to win number one place is a big deal. It's a huge deal. It's also perfect for sensitive and acne-prone skin. And that's because of the Heartleaf Extract and the Sugar Cane Extract. They act as natural AHAs, Alpha Hydroxy Acids, which gently, very gently, mildly almost, exfoliate the skin. So if your skin's really sensitive, mine's quite sensitive too, and you don't like using peels and exfoliators and things like that, you can use something as gentle as this daily and still get bright-looking skin that looks healthy and isn't sensitive in any way."
