What the gurus are saying

This essence earns praise for its velvety texture and barrier-repair power, especially the high concentration of bifida ferment lysate working alongside adenosine to soothe and gently smooth skin. The one caveat: it contains essential oils that may not suit everyone's skin, though some people find their skin handles these particular oils well. Best patch-tested first if you have sensitive skin or known essential oil sensitivities.

"Axis-Y also has a biome essence. I don't think it'll ever be as big on the internet because it uses certain essential oil ingredients, but surprisingly my skin gets along with those essential oils. I just still prefer the Manyo in the end."

"The AXIS-Y Biome Radiating Intensified Essence is good too, it just has some essential oils that I know won't work for everyone, but strangely enough the specific essential oils AXIS-Y used, my skin does fine with."

"There's 73 percent bifida ferment lysate in here and I love my ferments especially in K beauty which is going to help smooth the skin texture, it's very very gently exfoliating whilst also giving your skin back its natural dewy glow. [...] This serum is incredibly lightweight yet super nourishing. They describe it as a velvet fluid and that is such a nice accurate way to kind of capture how it feels, so soft yet enveloping on the skin. It's been really really nice."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Ceramides

Ceramides are part of the skin's own barrier, and moisturisers built around them have evidence for holding water in and settling the tightness and flaking that come with a damaged barrier.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
