What the gurus are saying

Cellulose does the scrubbing in this apricot gel, lifting dead skin without the harshness of grainy scrubs. Most takes are warm, praising its soft finish and gentle feel for those with sensitive skin when used once or twice a week. However, some takes are cooler. They flag denatured alcohol, added fragrance, and beads that should not be mixed with an enzyme peel, and feel peeling gels have had their day.

"It's got apricot, apple, green tea, blueberry extract, really nice. Leaves your skin feeling super soft. I just love it. I've repurchased it and I've really become a huge fan of those gentle peeling gels. [...] Worth checking out at 12 bucks. The bottles last me quite a long time. You only need a little bit."

"It doesn't get any recognition, I hope they don't discontinue it. It's really affordable and just super gentle. I keep it in my shower. I don't do it every day but maybe once or twice a week it's just nice, super gentle physical exfoliance. It's hard to find physical exfoliants that work for me because they tend to be too rough, where they contain a lot of, sometimes they contain a lot of like ground nutshells and things like that. These peeling type gels are wonderful."

"This is their Apricot Blossom Peeling Gel, which is a super gentle physical exfoliant type scrub. You apply it to wet skin, and it's just a very gentle physical exfoliant compared to like harsh scrubs or harsh powders. Super gentle. So, if you haven't tried it, at first I did not like these types of exfoliants. Uh, and it finally took me a few years to warm up to them and now kind of appreciate them and their gentleness without being too harsh or scrubby. So, I do like that."

"The cellulose in here kind of globs up and it helps just very gently exfoliate on a physical level. It's lovely, it's ten bucks. If you haven't tried a scrub like this, at first I hated them, hated them, and I've kind of come around to actually liking them once or twice a week. It's a very gentle physical exfoliant. It doesn't leave my skin feeling dry or anything. It's just very nice, leaves your skin just feeling clean but soft."

"I've got one other peeling gel and that one's from Beauty of Joseon and this is their apricot peeling gel. It's really nice, very similar to Ceryx I would say the Ceryx is a little more effective and a little more efficient, this one's a little bit more gentle. So again with sensitive skin this one might be a good option. They're both really affordable."

"The Apricot Blossom Peeling Gel gives me like really nostalgic feelings. I feel like peeling gels are overlooked nowadays. If you have easily sensitized skin or mild rosacea like myself, peeling gels are a great way to exfoliate without overly hassling your skin. Still to be used once or twice a week. However, this peeling gel contains 8% cellulose which boils up as you rub it on your skin and it's that cellulose that gently exfoliates away all those dead skin cells."

"I've used this, it's like a very traditional peeling gel. You kind of work it into the skin, it balls up on itself, feels very satisfying. It does allow you to take away some of the dead skin cells, but I just think peeling gels have had their day. They were all the rage a couple of years ago, but I don't see the hype about them as much now. [...] Beauty of Joseon as a Korean skincare brand is amazing, but this is my least favorite product from them."

"Enzyme peels can lead to irritation more than chemical peels, and I [...] always pick a fragrance-free superficial chemical peel over an enzyme peel for skin of color. You never mix physical beads [...] with an enzyme peel. It contains denatured alcohol, which should never be on our skin, and they added fragrance, which is an absolute disaster. This product is one of the worst you've seen today. It gets zero out of 10."

"It has glycerin so it is going to be hydrating, but I can feel actual physical beads, which is not a good idea with an enzyme peel. You never mix the two together. The fourth ingredient in here is denatured alcohol, which is not an ingredient that should ever be on our skin, plus it added fragrance, which is an absolute disaster. This product is one of the worst we've seen today. It gets zero out of 10."

"I also use Beauty of Joseon Apricot Blossom Peeling Gel once or twice a week. This is a really gentle physical exfoliant. It's great for removing skin flakes without kind of ripping deeper into any living skin. So I use it a lot before applying makeup. My main criteria for these is that they are concentrated enough to work well in the shower, which this one is."

Best Affordable Skincare: Beauty of Joseon (AD)
"This is one of my favorite peeling gels I've tried. My big test of whether a peeling gel is good is whether or not it bunches up and gives enough scrubbing fibers when I use it in the shower when there's lots of extra water around. This one works really really well, but a lot of them don't and they turn kind of sad and watery, or they actually go kind of sticky and stick to all your little hairs. [...] This one passes with flying colors."
Are you cleaning your face correctly? (AD)
"This is the Beauty of Joseon Apricot Blossom Peeling Gel. The main scrubbing ingredient is cellulose, it also has exfoliating enzymes in it to add to that effect. [...] After a minute or two of massaging you rinse it off. I use it about twice a week but it depends on your skin tolerance."

"There's also a peeling gel from Beauty of Joseon which is really good. It's a very gentle form of exfoliation and we don't always see a gentle form of apricot exfoliation. Back to Saint Ives apricot scrub, we don't really see that being as gentle. I am absolutely obsessed with this."
