What the gurus are saying

This cream earns consistent praise for its thick, occlusive texture and lasting hydration that holds up until the next shower, making it especially valued by those with very dry skin or living in harsh climates. The straightforward formula (featuring niacinamide for barrier health and redness, mineral oil as a strong occlusive, and laminaria extract to draw moisture into skin) works well layered over actives like retinoids and exfoliants. The main caveat: its heaviness may feel uncomfortable for people with oily skin or in humid climates, though the no-frills ingredient list and eczema-friendly formulation make it safe for the whole family to use anywhere on the face or body.

"Oh, Bioderma Atoderm body lotion. This stuff was really nice. Really thick. I got it at Walmart on clearance for like $5. I have no idea why. It wasn't expired. I didn't think they changed their formulation. It's really thick, but really good for dry skin. Probably best in the winter."

How to Firm Up Body Skin Everywhere - The Key to Firming Saggy & Loose Skin
"It is extremely hydrating and very thick, which is nice. But if you have very oily skin or live somewhere where it's very humid, you might not like this one. As for a super dry Minnesota gal, this one really helped me a lot this spring and helps with dryness. I'll layer this over some of these other products to help prevent dryness. [...] It's really nice, works very well in conjunction with retinoids. It's very occlusive, so you can use it over retinoids to prevent dryness or exfoliants."

"I like Bioderma Atoderm Cream. It's an ultra nourishing face and body daily cream. The second ingredient is paraffinum liquidum, which is very hydrating to the skin. Third is glycerin, which I love, and it's non-comedogenic."

"I discovered this body moisturizer this year and fell in love with it. I love it because it has niacinamide in it which is a helpful ingredient not only for redness and for improving the health of the moisture barrier but for hyperpigmentation. [...] It has mineral oil which is a wonderful occlusive, it has laminaria extract that's a marine extract that acts as a humectant helping to pull water into the top layers of the skin. [...] It's definitely a standout product in my mind."

"I recently recommended this product in my winter must-haves video, and I have been loving it from Bioderma—it's their Atoderm Cream. It's free of fragrance and it's actually similar to the La Roche-Posay Lipicare Balm. It has niacinamide in it, which is a good ingredient for skin brightening and for improving the health of the moisture barrier. It has some anti-aging properties."

"I got this from Amazon where it was gifted to me and I love it and would definitely repurchase it. "I'm loving this Bioderma Atoderm Cream. It is a really good body moisturizer for my skin. It has niacinamide in it which is good for irritation prone areas like the armpits and inner thighs because it's helpful for the moisture barrier and it's anti-inflammatory. Plus it also helps with hyperpigmentation and it's a skin brightening ingredient that you can use pretty much anywhere that you tolerate it. It's effective in moisturizers. I've really been happy with that."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
