What the gurus are saying

Fragrance is the main issue flagged by both reviewers. The vitamin C form here (3-O ethyl ascorbic acid) is more stable than standard ascorbic acid but hasn't been shown to brighten skin or boost collagen production. That means you're getting antioxidant protection at best, not the visible brightening you'd expect from this serum.

"It's a shame because it has so many good ingredients vitamin C, licorice extracts, and a ton of others but it does have fragrance and I think that's why I was like I'm not going to use it. And while I don't love that for your face, I will say every other product that she's used so far has been fragrance-free and it's all about reducing the risk of a reaction to fragrance right so the more you can reduce it in your routine the better it is."

"Overall, I think this is just a really nice elegant, fragrance-free milky serum that is hydrating but it's not sticky, it's not tacky. This may be better tolerated by individuals that have more dry and sensitive skin, but if you have combination skin and you're looking for a hydrating serum with brightening benefits and some plumping benefits, I think this can be one that is suitable to use as well."

"This particular vitamin C is 3-O ethyl ascorbic acid, which is a form of vitamin C that's a lot more stable than ascorbic acid. But unfortunately it hasn't really been shown to work as far as brightening. It might brighten because it's an antioxidant, but it's not going to get in the skin and boost up collagen production. This has fragrance in it too."
