What the gurus are saying

This cleanser earns consistent praise for removing excess oil effectively without leaving skin tight or stripped. Dermatologists who have reviewed it highlight that it delivers hydration alongside oil control, making it especially useful for those with oily skin who worry a strong cleanser will dry them out. The formula skips salicylic acid, so it tackles excess oil through its surfactant action and zinc rather than treating acne directly.

"My next recommendation here is the Cetaphil DermaControl Oil Removing Foam Wash. This one's really deep cleansing foaming formula. Effectively removes any excess oil impurities. It's pretty good at taking makeup off, too. It's clinically proven to remove up to 99% of excess oil without overdrying. It helps reduce shine while soothing and calming the irritated skin. It's also pH balanced to support healthy looking skin barrier. The key ingredients are glycerin and zinc gluconate."

"Another cleanser I really like if you're looking for something that's still affordable, drugstore, but with a little more active ingredients that maybe offer some calming, soothing benefits is Cetaphil. Their [...] foaming face wash is also gentle, not irritating. Suds nicely, but not stripping of your skin. It's gentle to remove sebum buildup and makeup without causing irritation. Plus, it also hydrates with glycerin and also has allantoin licorice extract and caffeine in a cleanser."

"One product that I've consistently recommended to my oily skin patients as well as follow on social media is from Cetaphil their DermaControl line. I do really love this line for individuals that have oily skin and the cleanser is the oil control foam wash. Number one, if you have oily skin, I do find that a foaming cleanser is nice in the sense you feel like you're getting that clean, but with this cleanser you're not over stripping your skin barrier."

"This wash does not have salicylic acid in it like the others, so it's less targeted specifically to treating acne, but it does a really good job removing excess oil. The claim is that it removes 99% of excess oil without overdrying or stripping the skin. It has hydrating ingredients in it so you're not left feeling dry and tight, and it has zinc, which can also play a role in regulating oil production."

"I like this cleanser so much because it's great if you have sensitive skin or if you have dehydrated skin. [...] A lot of people who have oily skin can also have dehydrated skin, which lacks water, so you have oil but you don't have water. That can mean that your skin looks shiny but still can feel tight or have prominence of fine lines or even just feel extra sensitive. Finding products that are both meant for sensitive skin that have hydrating properties but also can control oil is amazing."

"I use Cetaphil's Dry Skin Soothing Wash and it's enriched with filagrin and it really does help to soothe dry skin, so I literally just use this guy which is creamy all over my body."
