What the gurus are saying

The serum's standout feature is how it delivers hydration and barrier repair without irritation, with centella and ceramides earning consistent praise for soothing sensitive skin and supporting collagen production. However, the ceramide concentration falls short for a product named after them (only one type, positioned far down the ingredient list) and the purified peptides lack transparency about which specific peptides they contain and how they're processed, leaving some gurus skeptical of the anti-aging claims. The formula itself impresses those with dry and sensitive skin: it's lightweight, absorbs quickly, and layers well, though one camp found nothing innovating enough to justify the price.

"What are we trying to do here? Why are we just trying to over market something that's existed for years? Korean skincare has been doing sericite for decades. Nothing new here. And they're quite expensive these serums. So no Cetaphil. If you're going to offer us something that you're going to attach a load of bold claims to, make sure it's something different, something innovative, and something that we haven't seen before. These wouldn't be groundbreaking 10 years ago."

"It's a really lovely one, especially for those with dry and sensitive skin. It's got ceramides that are really important for the skin barrier, but also centella. Centella is [...] anti-inflammatory, but there's also great emerging studies that show centella helps to stimulate fibroblasts and support their ability to make collagen. So it actually has skin rejuvenating and anti-aging benefits. It also has allantoin that we know is hydrating and soothing."

"This is by far my favorite of all the serums I've tried from Cetaphil. This serum is super lightweight, hydrating, contains centella, very soothing and comforting, and has an extract that can help to repair the skin barrier. It's lightweight, absorbs really quickly, and I find that it layers really nicely in the morning and evening for me. I have a place in my routine that is basically just does the hydration and skin barrier repair without causing additional issues."

"It's clinically proven to significantly repair your skin moisture barrier in one week. It's super lightweight, non-irritating, specifically designed to defend against the five signs of skin sensitivity, which is your dryness, irritation, roughness, tightness, and weakened skin barrier. It's also clinically tested on sensitive skin. The key ingredients here are ceramide and niacinamide and allantoin."

"The other thing that's a little bit disappointing is it's called a ceramide serum but it only contains one ceramide and it's pretty far down the ingredient list, which is kind of a bummer. [...] There's not a whole ton of ceramides in here, but the nice thing is it does have panthenol which is great for soothing your skin, has sodium PCA which is great for fighting acne, and we've got centella asiatica extract which is great for soothing your skin."

"I finished another bottle of Cetaphil Healthy Renew face serum with purified peptides. This is a lightweight hydrating serum I rather enjoy using after cleansing in the evening as the first step in my nighttime skincare routine, followed by my tretinoin, because it's just a little lightweight hydrating. It helps to improve water content in skin's outermost layer, you get a subtle softening of fine lines."

"I'm going to hydrate up with a little Healthy Renew face serum from Cetaphil. I love the little orbs. This product is kind of fun because when you pump the product out, as it goes through the tube, these little spheres break apart and dissolve into the formula. So it comes out kind of peachy pearl."

"I'm going to come in this morning with the Cetaphil Healthy Renew face serum with purified peptides. One of the reasons I wash my face in the morning is that it helps things like this penetrate the skin a little better."
A Holiday Skincare Surprise 🎄
"I finished the Cetaphil Healthy Renew face serum and really enjoyed this. Unlike other skincare products, you can really tell I used every last drop. This pump package really gets everything out. I'm loving it more. Brands need to come out with stuff like this where you can see exactly how much you used. There is nothing stuck down there. That's wonderful."

"This is just a nice lightweight hydrating serum. It has rice bran extract, it has soy, and purified peptides that come from botanic ingredients, and it's a really nice hydrating soothing formula. I enjoyed using this basically in the morning after cleansing. It absorbs really quickly and then sunscreen goes over it really nicely. This is kind of a fun system of delivery of the moisturizing ingredients."

Korean Foot Cream I'm Loving!
"This morning I'm coming in with the healthy renew face serum from Cetaphil. For people who have eczema that can really be a source of a flare, but then again with eczema it's a delicate balance. You don't want to over cleanse because that inevitably compromises the integrity of your skin barrier, which is already a baseline issue."
L'Oreal....this is just bad
"This is really nice and moisturizing, it just kind of smooths the skin. I love using this before sunscreen, similar to how I would use a moisturizer, but the nice thing about this is the consistency is such that it absorbs pretty quickly and isn't something that ends up causing my sunscreen to peel. You only need like two pumps of this to cover the face and honestly the neck too, sometimes I do three, [...] but this spreads pretty well, it's like a gel, and you all know I love a good gel."

"I've been hearing so many good things from you guys about this newer Cetaphil Deep Hydration Skin Restoring Water Gel, and it doesn't surprise me. Cetaphil has just really been coming out with wonderful skincare in the past couple of years, they've really stepped up to the plate."

"Cetaphil is now in the anti-aging game with their Healthy Renew line and this is just such a cool bottle here of serum. A face serum, they make an eye serum, they make a night cream and a sunscreen with peptides. So check out their Healthy Renew line. I'm just going to show you how this comes out. It doesn't come out in these large beads, they get broken up into this almost glittery looking clear but also with a little peach colored serum."

"They say are retinol alternatives to help minimize the look of fine lines and wrinkles. I don't love that they call it a retinol necessarily alternative and don't really fully disclose what the peptides are, but on their website they do say that they have shown that they reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles. They also have provitamin B5, which is also known as panthenol, [...] as well as vitamin B3 to help hydrate your skin and adenosine."

"It is made up of highly purified peptides, and this is where I personally do have questions. [...] What are these purified peptides? How do they get them? Which one specifically are we talking about? Because nowhere on the packaging or the website do they actually talk about the type of peptides that they're using and what this purified peptide actually means. They say that the purified form of the peptides is much more specific, great, but which peptides are we talking about?"

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Source: DermNet

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Source: DermNet

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
