What the gurus are saying

The foundation splits reviewers sharply. Those who liked it praise the shade range and initial lightweight feel, though one found it their daily go-to. However, multiple experts found it left skin greasy and congested within hours, with the coverage dial not actually working as intended. The formula also sits on top of skin rather than blending seamlessly, and shade matching proved inconsistent in-store, meaning those with oily or combination skin may want to sample it carefully before committing at this price point.

"I've been using this since the early spring months of this year, [...] and I had been using it all summer. It's going to be a phenomenal foundation for the colder months, when my skin is drier and tighter and flakier but I still want luminosity without a sweaty glow. [...] The hybrid formulation of the Double Serum and the tinted side [...] is what intrigued me. It is highly fragranced, but I actually really like the scent, and I don't mind fragrance in my [...] makeup."

"This is one of my favorite foundations as of right now. This is my go-to. This is what I've been using every day non-stop since I bought it. If you have a similar skin tone as I do, then L4N might be a great option. There is a very good shade range, and there's also some warm undertones, and of course, pink undertones as well."

"A very expensive mistake right here. I use this product exclusively for a week and my skin got much worse. [...] It has this really interesting dial at the side [...] where you can twist it depending on how much coverage you want, [...] but this makes no difference whatsoever. The same amount comes out every single time. [...] The finish is just the greasiest thing I've ever used. At first it goes on [...] nice but [...] literally less than an hour later, my dry cheeks were oily, looked greasy."

"And no, foundation shouldn't do that. You should be blending your foundation so much that it's just pushed into the skin. [...] Initially when I put it on, I really really like the formula. I love the finish. It feels really kind of like weightless on the skin. And I was actually kind of surprised at the coverage you get from it. I think it's a really beautiful coverage. I really do. And it looks better when you put it on versus literally about 20 seconds later."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
