What the gurus are saying

One guru finds it genuinely hydrating and protective, reliably better than plain petroleum jelly and worth the repurchase. However, another expert who tested it for two months found the moisture faded within one to two hours, requiring frequent reapplication throughout the day, which felt impractical despite appreciating how nice it felt going on. Those with very dry lips may tolerate the reapplication, but anyone looking for lasting hydration through the day or night may want to consider something with stronger staying power.

"I use this one a lot. When I was filming my videos, I tested it out for a good two months, and I even used it while traveling on the airplane, everywhere. While it wasn't a terrible formula, like most COSRX products, I just wasn't super satisfied. I felt nice when I was applying it, but the moisture wouldn't last any longer than one or two hours. From my experience, I had to reapply this one like seven to ten times a day. That might seem like a lot, but for my dry ass lips it really isn't."

"I've also been really enjoying the COSRX Propolis Lip Sleeping Mask. This is just a really nice product. It works really well for softening my lips overnight."

"This is the lip sleep mask, and I've never repurchased it because it's not a perfect match for me, though I do respect what it is. It's more of a hydrating lip mask, and very few lip masks are made to target hydration, they're more emollient and occlusive. That might be a perfect pick for you if you have dehydrated lips, but personally I prefer a more occlusive lip balm, so it's another one of those products where I respect it for being different, it's just not a perfect match for my needs."

"It stays on the lips really well. I'll apply it at night, but sometimes I like to apply it in the morning. It's part of my morning skincare routine, and then later when I do my makeup, lip care products, lip glosses, and things go on hydrated, moisturized lips so much better. So I like it in that regard. It has shea butter. It has coconut oil, which some people don't get along with, but it's a great ingredient for dry skin, including chapped lips."

"It's the COSRX Propolis Lip [...] Sleeping Mask. [...] I decided to give this one a try, and I have to say it's not bad. It's a lot waxier, though. I'm not going to be going outside right now, so I'm not worried that this is not sunscreen. [...] But it does help with dry, cracked lips. It's honestly not bad. Is it the best lip product? No, but I like it, and I'll continue to use it. [...] It's not been bad."

"I've been using the COSRX Propolis Lip Sleeping Mask, and this has been pretty good if I do say so myself. I always prefer plain petroleum jelly, but this is not bad at all. I'm not a fan of the super popular lip sleep mask because it causes me lip irritation, so to me it's not worth the hype, for sure. This is a much better alternative. I'll just put a little on here, and I've really been enjoying this one. It's kind of hard to get out with your finger, but it's nice and thick."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
