What the gurus are saying

This sunscreen sets to an invisible finish with no white cast, and its lightweight, hydrating texture feels like applying a moisturizer rather than sun protection. It's fragrance-free and affordable at $9, marking a welcome departure from COSRX's recent scented sunscreens. One catch: it contains witch hazel extract, which reviewers either appreciate or find irritating, so those with sensitive skin may want to patch-test first.

"This invisible sunscreen ultra light from COSRX is like applying a moisturizer. It's gorgeous, and it's amazing that it's so much more affordable than western sunscreens."
✓Yay
"It's fragrance free, alcohol free. It does contain a little bit of witch hazel extract. This one's got four filters in it, so it doesn't have as many as some of the other K beauty ones I've mentioned. It's got [...] a nice lightweight sunscreen, no frills. I'll use this one more in the winter than in the strong summer and humid days and things like that, but it's still pretty nice."

Is the New COSRX Ultra Light Invisible Sunscreen the Best SPF of Summer 2024??
"It's a great daily sunscreen for days I'm running errands, I'm outside for a little bit. If I'm planning to be outside all day, if it's very sunny, very hot, sweaty, I'm going to be swimming, I'm going to pick something else. [...] But it's great for a daily basis. It offers great UVA protection, better than pretty much almost any sunscreen made in the US, or dare I say better than any sunscreen made in the US. It's unique, it's a unique sunscreen."

"COSRX Ultra Light Invisible Sunscreen, nine bucks. COSRX come with a lot of sunscreens lately but this one thankfully was a winner for me. The last couple ones they released were too scented, this one has no scent at all and it's literally invisible. [...] Once it soaks in it sets to an invisible finish just like they say. So in here we've got chemical filters, we've got four of them, then we've got vitamin E, allantoin and adenosine for some other additional beneficial ingredients. I love it."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
