What the gurus are saying

This pore extractor is easy to use too roughly, and most gurus who tried it warn against it. The core problem is pressure: you need enough force to actually extract anything, but that same force often irritates skin, flakes it, or pushes inflammation deeper. One reviewer found this particular model gentler than others she'd tried and uses it very lightly on her nose when clogged, but she emphasizes how easy it is to get carried away. A dermatologist's take is blunt: skip chemical exfoliation instead, or see a professional. Best reserved for people with very oily skin or stubborn blackheads, and only if you can stay genuinely gentle.

"I just have not had good luck with this brand whatsoever. [...] I didn't have good luck with this brand, this product. It's kind of harsh to get it to actually work. Some people love these spatulas and if you maybe have oilier skin or prone to blackheads, but I found the amount of pressure you have to use on this to actually help extract that ends up sometimes irritating your skin and flaking it and sometimes can end up making your skin look worse."

"I would definitely be very gentle with it. It's very easy to push too rough and irritate skin and peel skin. [...] I typically use it on my nose if I get clogged pores and it has its place for use. I had another brand of one of these and the end of it was very rough and it was really just irritating my skin. This one doesn't do that. So I can use it very lightly, but it's easy to get carried away. Don't get carried away with it. But it does a nice job if you're prone to clogged pores."
WTF Was I Thinking Skincare and Beauty Purchases?!?!
"I've tried one of these little spatulas before and didn't have good luck but then I thought well maybe I'm doing something wrong maybe I need to buy this and it was at Nordstrom during their anniversary sale so I thought you know what maybe buying like a name brand will actually perform better and I see how this has such divisive reviews some people love it and some people hate it it's really easy to overdo it with this on the pore extractor mode and really irritate the heck out of your skin and for some people with a lot of big pores or blackheads or things like that I could see how this would be amazing but it's super easy to really go too hard too rough and really irritate the heck out of your skin so yeah I don't know why I bought this I shouldn't have and I knew I didn't like this type of tool before but I still second guess myself thinking maybe I need a better one so yeah I didn't and my skin does not like it."

"So pore clearing at best should be done in the hands of a professional or at home through chemical exfoliation, not physical one or not manually scraped out. My verdict is skip this baby. You're better off using a chemical exfoliant with salicylic acid or if you're very sensitive, mandelic acid or seeing a derm or an esthetician who knows your skin best."
