What the gurus are saying

Azelaic acid as the star ingredient earns consistent praise for calming redness, evening skin tone, and helping with both rosacea and hyperpigmentation, while niacinamide adds soothing support for irritation-prone skin. The formula feels luxurious but lightweight enough for oily skin, though it mattifies rather than glows once dry, so those seeking radiance may want to pair it with a hydrating moisturizer. Best skipped around the eye area since the acid doesn't belong there.

"Dr Sam's Flawless Brightening Serum is really nice. She's got a NAD and vitamin C serum which I want to try, but from what I understand NAD might not be really that absorbable into the skin, but it's becoming bigger and bigger and I keep hearing things about it."

"Dr Sam's Flawless Brightly Serum, this one contains bakuchi, niacinamide, salicylic acid, absorbable glucose in the form of vitamin C. This one's a really good one for brightening skin or for anti-aging or if you're looking for a nice product to help with redness, this is a good one."

"I've got one more this is a runner up, the Dr Sam's Flawless Brightly Serum. So in this one we've got Asic acid, we've got niacinamide, we've got soral glucoside and then we've got bakuchi all in here. It's a little bit pricey but it's really nice product, it's really good for brightening your skin up and it's got a pretty short ingredient list of just proven ingredients."

"It's great for acne-prone skin, it's great for dark spots, it's great for rosacea, it's great for redness-prone skin. It is one of the few miracle ingredients that I would rank in my top three ingredients of all time. It's also got niacinamide, a scoro glucoside, and then bakuchiol as well. This one is worth checking out. There's also some great L acid products, but this one combines some nice brightening ingredients in it, which makes it worth checking out. And again, no fragrance."

Stop Wasting Time On Bad Bakuchiol!
"This is just such a wonderful blend, it feels like luxury on the skin but it doesn't cost 350 bucks. You could use this if you have dry skin under a moisturizer but especially if you're oily and super greasy this is going to be enough. It has niacinamide so it helps with oil regulation and azelaic acid, so if you do have rosacea, if you do have acne, it can help."
✓Yay
"I really like Dr Sam's Flawless Brightly Serum which has the azelaic acid and niacinamide as well and it just goes on really nice. It's [...] a perfect example of [...] a formulation with additional things like niacinamide that help soothe if you have easily irritated skin."
✓Mixed
"It doesn't stink as much as the rest but it is definitely mattifying once it dries out. If you are expecting a glow you will not get it with this. However if you have melasma or hyperpigmentation from inflammation this is a great one to add on as well because you get a little bit of everything else in the process."
✓Mixed
"They are more like cousins, which is perfectly fine, and she pairs that with azelaic acid, which makes this probably a good option for those with rosacea or strong inflammation in their skin that want something a little more gentle. But I wouldn't call it a retinoid serum. So this is probably good for the right people, not for me, because I use prescription for my adult acne."

"Brightly is the AM step, dosed evenly all over for brightening and radiance, but not used on the eye area since the acid doesn't belong there. It's great for redness, great for closed comedones and blemishes, great for texture, and great for almost everyone."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.
