What the gurus are saying

This moisturizer's 5% niacinamide is the detail that stands out, with gurus saying it helps redness and adult acne without clogging pores. However, it feels a little richer than some, so it can be too much in summer for certain skin types, while layering it may help with stubborn dryness. Anyone already using hyaluronic acid may want to keep it as the only one in their routine. Some gurus also wish it cost less.

"Wow, this is a really nice moisturizer. I wish it was a little less expensive, but I also understand why, since her brand never quite got the popularity of some others, and when you have more people buying products that's how you're able to make them more affordable."

"It's got panthenol which is vitamin B5. It's a medium moisturizer, not the thickest but not a gel. If you have redness in the skin, if you have adult acne, this is one of the best. [...] If you're looking for a moisturizer that just works well and doesn't clog the pores, doesn't break you out, doesn't make the white heads explode out of the cheeks, so good for adult acne. [...] One of the derms that I work with [...] is absolutely obsessed with [...] this and recommends it all the time."

"This is Dr. Sam's Flawless Moisturizer. She gave this to me. Her entire line is cruelty-free. I have put this on my face. I don't even know the ingredients but she's like this will help your skin."

"Dr Sam's Flawless Moisturizer is a gel cream that absorbs relatively quickly with 5% niacinamide and Shea Butter, but it does have hyaluronic acid so if you have hyaluronic acid in your routine try not to triple up on it. You don't need more, more is not more with hyaluronic acid. Let this be the only product with the hyaluronic acid in your sequence or your lineup."

"I agree with most of that. I wouldn't use it under makeup if you can help it; I'd more use it in your evening routine because of some of the ingredients. [...] In terms of drying types of alcohol, it does not contain any of those. In terms of fragrance, there's no fragrance ingredients. It has almost like a little bit of a licorice scent when you apply it and then it dissipates. It comes in a squeeze tube, no issues with that, and it's easy to travel with, which is nice."

"I actually don't use this in summer on my skin type because it's too much. I'll use it in the cooler winter months. But in summer, if you're struggling to get on top of your dryness, this could work really well. You could put layer after layer on top of it if that's your preference. It comes in a pump, so if this is your style of packaging that you prefer, the pump is really nice for just dispensing the right amount of product."

"Flawless Moisturizer is a little richer but also contains that crucial 5% niacinamide."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
