What the gurus are saying

This serum's hyaluronic acid and ceramides combination earns praise for visible plumping and hydration, with the ceramides specifically preventing the drying effect that HA alone can have in dry climates. Peptides and aloe add barrier repair and anti-aging support. Those with very dry skin often layer it under moisturizer, while those with oily skin typically use it as a lightweight moisturizer.

"This just escalates your moisturizer to the next level. Especially if you have dry skin like I do, and sometimes a single layer of moisturizer just isn't enough. Put on a layer of this underneath, then let it soak in. Your skin will plump right up, and then you can add your moisturizer as a slightly occlusive layer to protect your barrier. Absolutely love this in combination with the peptide night cream. These are unbeatable for sensitive, dry skin."

"The Hydration Booster x10 is a little known product that I don't think gets enough attention. I think people with oily skin will love this as a moisturizer. It has ceramides and hyaluronic acid, so it can be used as just a moisturizer. For me, it's kind of a boost of moisturizer in those dead of winter months, right after my vitamin C, after my vitamin C soaks in. Pop this on. This is what I use today just to plump up and hydrate my skin before I move on to the next steps in my skincare routine."

"This is basically the needl serum without panthenol which is the humectant in the needle serum. They have aloe vera in here but the peptides are in here, the ceramides are in here, the sodium hyaluronate. So this is a great first step after cleansing to hydrate your skin, give your skin a nice big boost of hydration. Now it's on the thicker side compared to the needless serum, my guess is they probably have a higher concentration of hyaluronic acid in this formula so it's a little bit tackier."

"Ceramides, hyaluronic acid and a little protection throughout the day. And for those of you who have really oily skin this could substitute for your moisturizer, it's so lightweight and with those ceramides you could get the hydration that you need without having your skin feel overly oily."
Skincare HACKS FOR MATURE SKIN! (DRMTLGY Fails, Faves and Tips!)
"The Hydration Booster x10 is a little bit on the watery side but it gives your skin that drink of moisture, especially in the evening before I put the rest of my skincare on. After I've completely cleansed my skin and done all my skincare devices, I give my skin a drink of water with this if I'm not using one of my other toners. This one is a little bit lighter weight, so I would say I tend to reach for this more in the spring and summertime as opposed to the winter."
SKINCARE Fails & Faves for Mature Over 50 Skin (DRMTLGY 30% BlackFriday/Cyber Monday Sale)
"I highly recommend the Hydration Booster x10. This has a bunch of peptides, a bunch of ceramides, and hyaluronic acid. It makes my skin feel like it's gotten a drink of water. It's a clear formula, like a serum, very thin formula. It just plumps up my skin. It sits beautifully with all my other skincare, it sits beautifully under makeup, just makes your skin look plump and hydrated. I definitely recommend the Hydration Booster x10 over the water cream."

"This is another lovely serum that you can introduce along with the Timeless hyaluronic acid or you could just use this instead. This does contain hyaluronic acid and I like to be a little extra so sometimes I do like to do that whether or not my other products have it. I just see better results when I do use a hyaluronic acid serum in terms of hydration and that plumpness."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Ceramides

Ceramides are part of the skin's own barrier, and moisturisers built around them have evidence for holding water in and settling the tightness and flaking that come with a damaged barrier.

    Source: DermNet

    Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

    Source: DermNet

    Peptides

Peptides are short protein fragments meant to signal repair. The evidence for them is thinner than for retinoids or vitamin C, and it varies a lot by the specific peptide, so the category is more promising than proven.
