What the gurus are saying

This mask divides reviewers on whether its appeal is primarily experiential or functional. Some gurus enjoy it as a seasonal ritual and appreciate the gentle exfoliation, though they note it works best for those without sensitive skin or eczema. Others found it caused redness, burning, and breakouts, or felt the results did not justify repurchasing. Those drawn to fragrant, textured skincare may want to patch-test first, especially if skin is reactive or prone to sensitivity.

"It's experiential skin care but there's just like nothing like it. It's not a new product, every fall this one product comes back to me. [...] It's like a [...] fall candle for your face. If you enjoy that sort of thing, if you don't have sensitive skin, you don't have eczema, I'm a big fan of this product. Ingredient wise it makes sense, but you're going into this knowing that it's for the experience plus some functional skin care, and the fragrance is just a part of that."

"This is one of this brand's bestsellers, it's a viral skincare product. [...] This has obviously pumpkin in it but it also has ceramides which are going to replenish and maintain the hydration of your skin barrier. It has peptides in it which are good for building collagen and anti-aging and it has clay so that's really good to draw out the gunk from your pores and help them shrink down and look way more less noticeable."

"It's a rinse off exfoliant mask with pumpkin enzymes, peptides, and silver which is an antibacterial ingredient, and then jojoba beads. I didn't hate it. Actually this is my second pro jar of it, I finished the first one and I enjoy it. It's nothing a must have, but it was okay."

"This unfortunately was a fail. My skin reacted the exact same as it did a couple years ago, my skin became really rosy, I had that burning sensation to my skin, and I also broke out, especially on my forehead and my temples. It's supposed to exfoliate the skin and rejuvenate it, give a brighter complexion, and it does have that warming sensation to it, which is probably why my skin became quite rosy and felt like it had that burning sensation."

"I don't have large pores so this again wouldn't benefit me but it can help to rejuvenate the skin like I said and gently exfoliate so this might be a product that you may love you might be like me and maybe not love it so much but I'm going to give this a 4.5 out of 10"

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
