What the gurus are saying

The tint is what reviewers keep coming back to, since it sits neutral rather than peachy or orange and blurs pores as it goes on. Several also call it gentle enough for sensitive skin, though some found it shiny with a slight cast and questioned the price against drugstore mineral options. The one thing to keep in mind: the tint may not work well for skin deeper than Fitzpatrick type 3.

"EltaMD UV Physical is one of the options I recommend to my friends who have sensitive skin."

"One of my favorite mineral sunscreens for around the eyes is the EltaMD UV Physical SPF 41. This one is slightly tinted so you actually get a little bit of cover of dark circles if you're also going for that too. It's a face sunscreen but using it under the eyes can be really helpful."

"I really love that EltaMD UV Physical SPF 41. This sunscreen uses a combination of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide and it has a really nice neutral tint. I feel like sometimes they're too peachy or too warm and this one sits right in the middle. In terms of texture it's quite mousey, almost whipped, and so I find that it layers really well under makeup. When you apply it it has this nice pore blurring effect."

"I do want to give a special shout out to Ulta MD UV physical SPF 41 because this was probably the first sunscreen I ever used consistently. [...] I really liked that it had a little bit of a tint and a little bit of a blurring effect, so I feel like it makes my skin look better, and I really like that it was gentle on my skin. Even now it's one of my top recommended sunscreens for people who have rosacea or people who have sensitive skin in general."

"I think it is excellent if you have sensitive skin. This is one of my top recommendations also for sunscreen to use after you've had a laser procedure, so it really is incredibly gentle and I've never had anyone report skin stinging or burning after they use this product."
Dermatologist's Top 10 Skincare Products for Oily Skin & Clogged Pores! | Dr. Sam Ellis
"This is a lightly tinted mineral or physical sunscreen. [...] The UV filters in here are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, and in general these mineral filters tend to be a little bit better for oily skin. Zinc has this drying effect on the skin which if you have oily skin can be really helpful. [...] One unique aspect is the tint. [...] I find a lot of tinted sunscreens are really warm or orange toned, but this one is much more cool with kind of like pinky undertones."

"By far the most common sunscreens that I reach for are from Elta MD and it's because there's like an endless supply. Many dermatologists and doctor's office sell Elta MD and so it's like available and on hand. But the great thing about Elta MD is that they have so many different sunscreens for so many different skin types and then they have the tinted and the untinted."

"It's actually present in one of my favorite sunscreens, the EltaMD UV Physical Tinted Mineral Sunscreen. I love that bad boy, and honestly that is a sunscreen I've been using off and on for many years."

Sunscreen I use & USED UP| Dr Dray
"I really liked it but I would not say it is their best sunscreen. It is an all mineral formula but it's not tinted and there is a cast and it is shiny and those are things that don't bother me. But if you're going to plunk down the change for an Elta MD sunscreen I think the aesthetics of this you're going to be sorely disappointed because there are all mineral formulations that you can buy in the drugstore that are less expensive and look the same."

"This is EltaMD for $44. It's tinted mineral. It's a really nice sunscreen option that is one of their best sellers. It is nice, all mineral tinted."

Which EltaMD Sunscreen Should You Buy? | My Review + 20% OFF Sale
"UV Physical is lighter in tint compared to the UV Restore and UV Glow. [...] This one feels really soft on the skin, kind of closer to a matte finish than all of the others. [...] It comes in a bigger three-ounce tube. [...] I would go for this one if you are somebody who wants just kind of a subtle tint finish, you're going to be outdoors, you need something water-resistant. This one's going to be awesome."
✓Yay
"I love both of these sunscreens. [...] The physical gives me a little bit of tint, it's probably not going to work for anyone beyond Fitzpatrick 3. [...] I tended to step away from EltaMD because I had such an issue with their first physical sunscreen that it just left my face really orange, but I think they've done a great job in reformulating this. I love the physical and love the combination sunscreen."
