What the gurus are saying

This watery toner wins praise for its cool feel and deep hydration without a sticky finish. Its exfoliation is so mild that some noticed no tingle, though a few felt skin smoother with use. Anyone hoping for a real peel may not see much, and teens may want to go easy since their skin turns over well. Layering two or three times can feel extra hydrating, and it's fine for sensitive or dry skin.

"This is a toner that's deeply hydrating but also gently exfoliating. [...] It's not a harsh exfoliation, you can use it daily, it's safe to use before you go out in the sun. It's very, very mild. I love building up layers of toner, and [...] what you're doing is hydrating that skin without using something too thick or too heavy underneath your foundation, but you're giving yourselves excessive layers of moisture. [...] One of my favorite toners ever."

"It does work. The proteiers does work. It does work, especially alongside of other congestion and texture fighting ingredients. It can be a nice little extra something to add to your skincare routine."

"I was not disappointed. The name definitely promised a lot. I do feel that it delivered on a lot of hydration. It sinks in deep and just really kind of bursts into hydration deep within the skin. There is a slipperiness to this. It definitely has a little bit of that slip type feel. And sometimes I feel like that can dry down sticky in certain products, but with this one, I didn't feel a stickiness on my skin."

"It just feels very refreshing, very swimming pool-like. [...] Very deeply hydrating. Your skin feels really refreshed, cooled, but that hydration feels deep down and locked in. It feels amazing but still breathable. This is the type of toner I would recommend for any skin type because it doesn't have [...] a sticky finish afterwards or feel [...] heavy on the skin, especially if you already have a lot of oil. [...] Not this one. It will play really well with all skin types."

"This is actually surprisingly hydrating. I personally just find this to be a really nicely hydrating toner. What I've noticed having used this now a little bit longer, at this point what I will say about this one is it does make my skin feel very smooth. I think on a certain level it is helping to shed away those dead skin cells. I'm noticing that my skin feels a lot smoother when I'm using this consistently in my skincare routine."

"I definitely think that using some kind of exfoliating product is helpful. I would be very cautious with somebody in their teens because your skin cell turnover is still pretty good. I would be okay with this one just because the enzymes look pretty gentle and it also has gentle ingredients. It looks like there's glycerin and panthenol, allantoin, and some sodium hyaluronate. So this does look like it's going to be nourishing in addition to very gently exfoliating. I like it."

"But it's not just hydrating you to the gods. It is always overtime smoothing everything out and evening the skin tone at the same time. I think for people that crave real gentle exfoliation this could be an absolute win. I love how it feels on the skin. It's bouncy, it's juicy. And the packaging is really lovely too. [...] I can confirm this drenches the skin. Hydrates you like no other toner I have ever used."
✓Yay
"This is very viral. It's a watery toner, but a pretty generous amount comes out, so if you layer it two or three times I can totally feel that it's hydrating. They market it as a non-irritating exfoliating toner because they didn't put AHA or BHA in it, but I didn't notice any exfoliating effect at all. Nobody cares about this brand in Korea, it's just a viral brand, but it's pretty impressive. They made it pretty good for all skin types."

Testing Viral Korean Skincare and Makeup Products - Worth The Hype?
"This EqualBerry Swimming Pool Toner is a watery toner and it does its job, though don't expect too much from a toner, it's just there to hydrate and prep your skin like a good appetizer before the rest of your routine. It feels so good, and even though it's labeled as exfoliating I don't feel any tingle at all, so it's fine for sensitive and dry skin types."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
