What the gurus are saying

The roller tip and massage action help reduce puffiness, while an enzyme that targets melanin production tackles pigmentation directly at the source. Dermatologists found it hydrating and lightweight enough for twice-daily use without creasing makeup, though it is not formulated to address fine lines. For those managing discoloration and mild swelling rather than deep wrinkles, the affordable price and non-greasy texture make it a practical option.

"I suggest trying the Eucerin eye cream instead. It's the only product in the US line that is fragrance-free, so it's a lot gentler. I don't believe the percentage strength of the thiamidol in it is disclosed, [...] but since I personally did not care for the strong fragrance in the other facial care products, the eye cream might be gentler for you too."

"If you want to dabble in addressing hyperpigmentation, not dark circles that are hollows, but hyperpigmentation, try out Eucerin Radiant Tone Eye Cream with Thiamidol. Thiamidol is that tyrosinase inhibitor. This product has a nice cooling applicator which can also help to depuff a bit as you're applying it. It's a nice rich cream. You'll get a reduction in little dehydration lines because it's a moisturizer. And in contrast to the other products in this line, no fragrance."

"The eye cream in that Thiamidol line from Eucerin does not have fragrance now per unit. It's more expensive, but you can use it on the rest of your face. It comes with a pretty sizable amount and you don't need like a big glob. You [...] just need a really thin film. Thiamidol you can even use just areas where you have hyperpigmentation to make it go even further."

"This and the eye cream don't have fragrance. So if you want to try Thiamidol from Eucerin, I suggest getting the eye cream and just using it, because you don't need very much. That avoids that strong fragrance, but it is a pretty hefty price point to be shelling out."
*NEW* Eucerin Radiant Tone With Thiamidol For Dark Spots
"The eye cream does not have fragrance, there's no odor to the eye cream whatsoever. It is a richer texture and it has shea butter in it. [...] If you are like me and you don't want that strong fragrance, it's irritating to you, it's off-putting, it gives you a headache, then maybe consider the eye cream. [...] The eye cream does have nice spread on the skin, you can get a thin layer without needing to use very much."

"The eye cream from the Eucerin Radiant Tone [...] line does not have fragrance, so that might be one you want to consider."

"It targets the enzyme that's responsible for excess melanin production, so it directly addresses pigmentation at the source. It's paired with hyaluronic acid for hydration and plumping which helps soften the look of fine lines over time. So for mature skin dealing with both pigmentation and texture under eye, this is one of the most comprehensive affordable options I found at the drugstore. [...] I do love this eye cream."
Top Pick: affordable drugstore eye cream
    ~Yay
"Contains Thiamidol, shea butter, hyaluronic acid and a few other plant-derived extracts. It's like a lighter cream. It's not super rich or nourishing. It's not meant to tackle fine lines, but I really do love the fact that I can usually use it and it keeps my under eye pretty hydrated and does not cause makeup to run or to crease. And you can use it twice a day."
    ~Nay
"I feel like I don't hate the eye cream formula itself as much as I hate the applicator. This is one of those eye creams that comes in like the metal massager thingy. [...] I tend to get really annoyed by this type of packaging because every single time I've used an eye cream that has this type of packaging, it always ends up pulling and tugging on my under eye area so much more than if I were to just pat the formula in with my fingers."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

    Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
