What the gurus are saying

This clay mask delivers immediate oil control in the T-zone and visible pore-tightening over a couple of weeks, thanks to kaolin and bentonite. It's not designed for sensitive skin, but anyone with oily skin and enlarged pores will see the effect.

"My alternative would be Glow Recipe's watermelon clay mask, because if you are looking for a clay mask to clear all the gunk out of your pores, this has BHA and PHA in alongside hyaluronic acid infused clay, so not only do you get instant satisfaction of clearer, smaller looking pores, but the more you use this as your exfoliating step the clearer your pores are actually going to be."

The Best And Worst Products From GLOW RECIPE- My Honest Thoughts 1 Year Later 💜 James Welsh
"I really enjoy this face mask when I used it. Exfoliants often make my skin react and this one didn't. I hate clay masks because of how they dry down. It reminds me of my teenage acne days and this one didn't. It's kind of like the Caudalie one where if you leave it on for the recommended amount of time, it doesn't dry down your skin and completely void your skin of all oils and any hydration that it once had."

"This is the glow recipe watermelon hyaluronic clay pore tight facial. [...] This is actually a clay mask that is really great. I wouldn't recommend this mask for oily skin that is hydrated deep down. I would recommend this for oily hydrated greasy skin through and through. [...] It has clays in it that are really good at wicking away hydration. [...] The AHAs in here and the watermelon have antioxidants and exfoliation benefits."

"It does come with a little spoon, which even if you're getting it for ten to twenty-five percent off, for this price, you better give me a spoon. This is so good and it smells divine. I wouldn't recommend this for the most sensitive of skin types, [...] but if you have large pores in the nose area, if you get oily in this T-Zone, this will wick it right away. This has ingredients such as blueberry, bamboo, and willow, which are awesome for the skin, but it also has kaolin and bentonite clay."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
