What the gurus are saying

This lightweight gel cream earns consistent praise for delivering serious hydration without any sticky feel or heaviness, making it a standout choice for oily and combination skin year-round and especially in summer. Dr. Liu highlights its multiple hyaluronic acid types that layer from surface to deep, plus the absence of fragrance, alcohol, and irritants, while another reviewer gives it a solid seven out of ten as dependable rather than transformative. It works beautifully layered under sunscreen or as a standalone moisturizer for anyone who needs hydration but dreads that weighed-down feeling.

"If you have more dry skin but want something hydrating that's not sticky, one of my favorite essences or toners is Hada Labo's Gokujyun Premium, the yellow bottle. This is by far one of the most hydrating, elegant hyaluronic acid based serums I've ever used. It literally feels like water, but your skin feels so hydrated. It's got five different types of hyaluronic acid that layer from superficial to deep, and you don't feel any tackiness or stickiness."

"The moisturizer is a little more creamy but absorbs really quickly. It's more suitable for normal to dry skin, but again not heavy, so for someone with oily skin this would be a great nighttime moisturizer if you're using tretinoin, or a good winter moisturizer for those with combination dry skin. It has five different types of hyaluronic acid of various molecular weights for long-lasting hydration. This line suits my skin pretty much all year round and I really love it."

"It works like a basic moisturizer but it's hydrating and as soon as you use it it gives you a very beautiful glow, lightweight, gel-based. You can use this morning and evening. I give this like a seven out of ten. I don't think it's life-changing but it's good."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Urea

Urea both holds water in the skin and gently loosens dead surface cells. At higher strengths it has good evidence for very dry or thickened skin.

    Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
