What the gurus are saying

The combination of glycolic and salicylic acids can work well for those with discoloration and oily or combination skin, though the actual acid concentrations here are modest. The serum spreads easily with an immediate smoothing effect from silica, but leaves skin tacky for a while and pairs best used alone rather than layered with other actives. However, because the acids are gentler and the product lacks true salicylic acid to penetrate pores deeply, the results for large pores tend to be subtle, which may disappoint anyone looking for dramatic pore refinement but suits those sensitive to stronger exfoliants.

"That low concentration might be an advantage if you are sensitive to higher acid concentrations and don't mind the variety of plant extracts present. It certainly has a lovely texture and an immediate effect on the look of your skin, but if you really struggle with large pores, I am not sure it will give you the results you are after."

"The third exfoliating acid I do not have on me, it is one by iNNBEAUTY PROJECT. This is their Pore Refine Pore Shrinking Serum that has a combination of glycolic, lactic, and salicylic acid. So this is interesting if you have discoloration but you are also suffering with acne or a little bit of oily prone skin. The combination of the glycolic and the salicylic acid can work wonders in combination skin."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Alpha hydroxy acids

Alpha hydroxy acids loosen the bonds holding dead cells at the surface. The evidence supports smoother texture and more even tone over time, and they can leave skin more sensitive to sun.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Peptides

Peptides are short protein fragments meant to signal repair. The evidence for them is thinner than for retinoids or vitamin C, and it varies a lot by the specific peptide, so the category is more promising than proven.
