What the gurus are saying

Experts split on this one. Fans like the light, non-sticky feel and the dewy finish, and some say it helps with redness, breakouts and oil control. Others were not convinced, and for some the results were hard to spot. The thing to keep in mind: the essential oils are in there and the hyaluronic acid is lower than the name suggests, so those with reactive skin may want to be careful.

"That doesn't make it a bad product. The formula feels beautiful on the skin. If you love the sensorial feel of K beauty and [...] your skin isn't reactive, this is for you, you get gentle brightening benefits alongside hydration, so it's really a double whammy product. [...] Just know that the HA concentration is lower than the name suggests and the essential oils are there."

"This was the very first product that I ever used from Korea. It's a really lovely hydrating serum that contains green tea extract derived specifically from Jeju Island, which is a lovely, beautiful island from Korea that is the right environment for growing wonderful biodiverse species of green tea, and they handpick each of the green teas to produce this serum. It contains green tea extract along with different blends of hyaluronic acid that just makes a great lightweight hydrating serum."

"It's highly suitable for all skin types, it's lightweight, non-sticky, hydrating, so even if you have acne skin I think this could be something that you can incorporate into your routine that may help with improving post-acne marks and maybe offer some sebum control."

"There was nothing about the product that really showed benefits on my skin that made me think I need to go out and repurchase this. It really didn't do much for me, but it's a solid product. I do find this to be a very fairly priced product especially when we're talking about something that's available at Sephora. Thirty dollars for 80 milliliters of product, I mean most serums are 30 ml or 50 ml, so I think that this is priced exactly right."

"Going back to when I first got into Korean skincare, I always used to use Innisfree's Green Tea Seed Serum, which I think is called something different now. I love it. It's great for redness, breakouts, easily sensitized skin and slow aging, and it helps with oil control without stripping your skin of its natural sebum and oils. [...] I've repurchased this serum a total of nine times and I still have no idea how it works."

"If you've been following me since I started YouTube, you know Innisfree was probably one of the first Korean skincare brands I really got into, mainly because they were heavily endorsed by a lot of K-pop idols. It has green tea, which is an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial, and they've also put hyaluronic acid in it. I think they've adjusted the name to align with current trends, with ceramides, peptides, and hyaluronic acid being popular. My skin gets a little bit dewy with it."

"I love the Innisfree Green Tea Seed Serum, and that's actually why I'm repurchasing their facial cream - because I love both products from this line."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
