What the gurus are saying

A watery-feeling cream that gurus credit with noticeably calming redness, strengthening the skin barrier, and reducing breakouts and irritation, especially for those with dry or combination skin dealing with visible ageing or stressed skin. James Welsh found it transformed his dryness through winter and settled his rosacea and flushing, while Caroline Hirons recommends it as a meaningful step for anyone past their 20s or facing skin stress. The main thing to keep in mind: it is not formulated for oily skin, though one reviewer with an oily T-zone had no issues.

"I love the smell, I love the feel, I love what it does to my skin. It's not something that you need if you're young, but if you are 35ish, 40, probably plus, certainly 50 plus, and certainly nearly 55 and a Nana plus, you will see the benefit of this. I kind of use this as a hybrid between a treatment and a moisturizer, so I will do my face, do a serum, maybe I'll put this on, and then I'll put a moisturizer on top because I'm greedy. I love it. I'll always have it. It's desert island for me."

"The Peptide K8 Power Cream is amazing. I love it. It's a moisturizer but it's more than a moisturizer. [...] You do not need this if you're in your 20s and you lead a healthy lifestyle and you go to the gym and you don't smoke and you don't drink. However, if you're not in perfect health, you might need some kind of extra benefit to your skin. If you are older, you will definitely see the benefit of using this. I love it. If you ever see it on offer, just buy it."

"This has been amazing mainly as a daytime moisturizer saving my skin from that real dryness now we're going into much colder weather. [...] I believe it's because of peptides in general, my skin is loving peptides for so many different reasons, but teamed up with ceramides, my skin barrier feels stronger in the sense that I'm breaking out less, my skin is less prone to irritation, my rosacea has [...] calmed down, my flushing doesn't tend to happen as much."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Vitamin C

Topical vitamin C is an antioxidant with reasonable evidence for dullness and uneven tone. It breaks down in light and air, so how a product is formulated and packaged matters as much as the percentage on the front.

    Source: DermNet

    Urea

Urea both holds water in the skin and gently loosens dead surface cells. At higher strengths it has good evidence for very dry or thickened skin.

    Source: DermNet

    Ceramides

Ceramides are part of the skin's own barrier, and moisturisers built around them have evidence for holding water in and settling the tightness and flaking that come with a damaged barrier.
