What the gurus are saying

This mineral sunscreen earns strong praise for its texture and feel, with some gurus calling it one of the nicest sunscreens they have used. However, those with dry skin may find it challenging as a standalone product, and it can be finicky when layered under makeup. Best suited for people with normal to oily skin.

"This is honestly one of the nicest sunscreens I have used to date. And I have used and tested a lot of different sunscreens. [...] This is the new Beyond Screen Mineral All UV Serum. It has an SPF 50 plus and it's broad spectrum. It also hydrates to soothe and help reduce redness due to dry skin and it reinforces the skin's moisture barrier. And I can confirm that is 100% true."

IF I LOST MY ENTIRE SKINCARE COLLECTION... THESE ARE THE 11 PRODUCTS I'D REPURCHASE FIRST!
"This is the new Kiehl's Beyond Screen Mineral UV Serum. It's a broad-spectrum SPF 50 plus all mineral and it does have a zinc oxide of 15.3% and a titanium dioxide of 2.7%. [...] It's very calming and soothing. It's actually great for those that have sensitive skin. If you ever have compromised skin, if you have redness, this will help to reduce the look of that facial redness."

"So I didn't think it looked terrible, but I did notice that it had been coming off under my nails all day long. And it was getting a little bit shiny, but also felt so very drying throughout the day that I really couldn't wait to wash my face. I really can't fully recommend it to people with dry skin. I'm going to give it three out of five for a standalone sunscreen and two out of five for how it did with makeup."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
