What the gurus are saying

This oil absorbs quickly and leaves skin with a radiant glow, and reviewers love pairing it with retinol because the built-in SPF guards against sun sensitivity. However, coconut oil is comedogenic for some people, those prone to breakouts may want to patch-test first, since tolerance varies widely from person to person.

"Kopari, that brand came out with just coconut products to begin with, and some people might be able to slather all that over their skin for days and days and days and weeks and not have any issues. And then there might be some somebody that slathers Coconut Oil on and breaks out the next morning. So it depends on the person."

"I like to go in with an oil that has an SPF, I like all the Kopari oils, my skin just drinks it up and I love how my skin looks with them. It has a little bit of sheen too, so in the summertime my skin is glowing. I just love that oil, and since it has SPF you're glowing and you get SPF protection, which is great since retinol can make your skin more sun sensitive."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
