What the gurus are saying

A gentle yet powerful exfoliant that delivers results close to an in-office peel, earning praise for its cooling sensation and how skin feels afterward. One reviewer found the formulation thoughtful and effective enough for both beginners and experienced users, though another felt the bottle design fell short and preferred an alternative product overall. Those new to chemical peels may want to start slowly and patch-test first, given the strength.

"This has lactic and glycolic acids which are good for hydrating the skin and smoothing the skin surface, very good for rough and bumpy skin. It also has polyhydroxy acid which is good for hydrating and smoothing the skin surface. It's a gentle exfoliant, so this would be good for skin texture and may help in fading post-acne dark marks. It does have fragrance, and in my experience these products, the fragrance is very strong."

"The L'Oreal Bright Reveal dark spot exfoliant peel, I wouldn't recommend that over this one. I've tried it and I would recommend this over that almost any day of the week, probably any day actually. It's better formulated."

"I find this peel extremely gentle. There's a very nice cooling sensation afterwards. I love how my skin feels like for the next two hours after I use this peel. I've had like such dramatically different experiences with these multi-layered exfoliation peels and this one does great for me. Because of all the thought and science I know they put into creating a gentle formulation with a lot of efficacy, the whole point of this is that it does great results while still being gentle."

"I left it on my skin, I actually shot videos for the rest of the day and felt great. Like that's wild. So it was kind of two similar ingredient profiles from the actual exfoliating depth, one I tolerated really well. [...] I do think that this in particular is absorbed, can be particularly effective."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Salicylic acid

Salicylic acid dissolves in oil, so it can get into a pore rather than just working on the surface. That is why it has long-standing evidence for blackheads and milder acne.

Alpha hydroxy acids

Alpha hydroxy acids loosen the bonds holding dead cells at the surface. The evidence supports smoother texture and more even tone over time, and they can leave skin more sensitive to sun.
