What the gurus are saying

This sunscreen leaves a noticeably greasy shine that demands blotting to look comfortable on skin, and it has a heavy texture that's tough to spread evenly. Dermatologists and skincare creators who tested it found the organic formula with niacinamide genuinely helpful for redness and discoloration, but the lack of water resistance and occasional peeling mean it works best for those with drier skin who don't mind a slick finish and are willing to let it sit before gently blotting away excess.

"There's one product I don't like from La Roche-Posay in their sunscreen category just because it was so heavy for me and difficult to rub in. This is their Anthelios UV Correct face sunscreen SPF 70. So this product was just very difficult for me to rub in and so I'd ended up not liking it. If you don't like that heavier sunscreen white cast, then I wouldn't recommend it."

"This is La Roche-Posay's SPF 70 Anthelios UV Correct Daily Lotion sunscreen. I've been using this off and on. It is an organic sunscreen with avobenzone, which is good for redness and hyperpigmentation. It's not water resistant and the finish is a little shiny. I have gotten some peeling with this, which is when the sunscreen kind of comes up in little balls, including when I just put it on a bare face with no product underneath."

"So whenever I use this it does leave me a really greasy shine afterwards that's a little bit uncomfortable for my skin so what I do is I let it sit and then I would apply one ply of tissue and then just blot it gently so that your skin doesn't look like it just came out of the fryer. This also has a large proprietary complex that looks like B3 Shield which is basically a combination of antioxidants and niacinamide so if you are a fan of niacinamide this is a really great addition."

"It helps to calm redness and just general evenness in skin tone. I was very much seduced by the finish of this because the finish is so beautifully radiant. It leaves my skin with a mega watt glow, but not just that. I feel like it even makes my skin look brighter when I use it. [...] This is actually an oil-free formula even though it has some nice emollients to it. So it will add emollients to your skin or keep the moisture in your skin without being this heavy, cumbersome layer."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
