What the gurus are saying

This sunscreen earns consistent praise for its invisible, weightless feel and eye-friendly formula that doesn't sting or burn around delicate areas. Experts highlight how fast it absorbs, dries down quickly without migrating, and sits comfortably under makeup, making it especially suited to normal and oily skin or hot, humid weather. The main trade-off: a few gurus note the high alcohol content as a drawback, and one found it underwhelming for very dry skin or those seeking extra treatment benefits alongside sun protection, though most consider it a reliable everyday option.

"I was having deep thoughts about a luxury sunscreen. At first I picked this one out and I thought La Roche-Posay, that's not very lux. Although in the US this is lux. This is the good one, it's the one made in Europe with the good filters. So yeah, at home this is lux, but well, most people watching this, it doesn't come off as lux."

"This one is a European La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVMune. It's got great filters. I think it's got eight different chemical filters. It's amazing. So, on the sunniest, hottest days, sweatiest days of the year, this is the one I go to. I was recently on a little short weekend trip somewhere very sunny. I use this every day and it didn't let me down. However, apply this, give it a good 10, 15 minutes to soak into your skin."

"My first recommendation here is the La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVMune 400 Invisible Fluid SPF 50+. This is super duper lightweight, gentle mineral sunscreen. Blends really easy without any white cast. It's totally non-comedogenic. It's tested on sensitive skin. It comes in non-tinted and tinted. So, if you're somebody who has melasma, tinted might be better for you. The key ingredient here is the titanium dioxide. It also has some antioxidants and thermal spring water."

"I love this. This is by La Roche-Posay. It's a tinted SPF 40. It has niacinamide, squalane, hyaluronic acid. So it's a treatment along with a sunscreen."

"On days when I know I will be outdoors for a good portion of the day, I will start with a layer of the La Roche-Posay UVMune 400 SPF 50+ Invisible Fluid, which is the most comfortable water resistant option I have found and offers amazing UVA protection, great for me as I am worried about hyperpigmentation."

"I'm fond of La Roche-Posay Anthelios Invisible Fluid, which is SPF 50 and a chemical sunscreen, which is great for oily skin."

"There's also the non-tinted liquid version of that I've also gone through a few of those. It's a good one. That one's really good, it blends really easily."
✓Nay
"The second ingredient here is denatured alcohol, the second ingredient, which means it's at a very high percentage. There are no other actives in this product that are going to give you any additional benefits to the skin. It is a chemical sunscreen, which is fine if that was the only thing worth it. The only plus point of this product is that it is fragrance free. But for me, this is another no, especially for the price point."

"I cannot wear this as an SPF. I cannot wear enough to get the coverage to wear it as an SPF, but as a makeup I'm going to give it a 5 out of 5. I'm wearing it almost every day now, just a tiny bit. It looks flawless. It has a nice glow to it. It's a little transferable, but sure you can't win them all. But I think for the price, this has become a makeup surprise."

"I do have one of the fluid versions, the fragrance free one, but I haven't really tried it too much. The few times I have used it, it's nice, it has a more lightweight finish to it, and it's pretty moisturizing without being greasy at all. Like the cream, it doesn't burn or sting around the eyes."

January 2022 FAVORITES & FAILS // @DrDrayzday
"It's a chemical sunscreen with tinosorb and a variety of other chemical filters that offer broad-spectrum UVA UVB protection. It's super lightweight and fragrance-free, [...] just a very nice lightweight liquid fluid with no pilling and doesn't look greasy whatsoever. It's probably one of the easiest sunscreens to wear because it goes on and then you completely forget it's even on there. I tolerate it around my eyes just fine with no burny eyes. It's definitely a favorite."
✓Yay
"It has their Net Lock technology which ensures higher protection in a much thinner almost invisible weightless layer. [...] The application is so fast absorbing, and this dries down quickly and then it just does not budge, it does not migrate, which is why you can actually use this around your eye area which I love. [...] This is great for normal to oilier skin types and for very hot and humid weather, and it keeps everything dry to the touch."
✓Yay
"This is a very lightweight non-greasy sunscreen designed for sensitive skin and it's pretty much invisible after you apply it. It's fragrance free, absorbs easily into skin, doesn't clog pores, and sits nicely under makeup. It's just a comfortable daily sunscreen. It's also formulated to not sting eyes and that seems to be true for most people who have reviewed this. [...] The packaging is also really nice with the liquid texture and small drop opening, which means there's less product wastage."
✓Nay
"But for me there was nothing special about this sunscreen as far as application, drying down, reapplication. It was just a very basic run-of-the-mill sunscreen. I think if you're very very oily you'll be absolutely fine with this sunscreen. If you're very very dry you'll be fine but you probably prefer something like Round Lab sunscreens, like something that's actually moisturizing. But for me this was just like, it's a sunscreen."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
