What the gurus are saying

The multicolor effect earns praise for creating a bizarrely natural finish, and the formula lasts because it's powder. However, the pigmentation is intense, dippers find it easy to apply too much and end up with a ruddy look, so people new to it may want to start with a light hand and build gradually.

"My top blush recommendation is Laura Geller's Baked Blush-n-Brighten. These are such beautiful blushes, [...] I'm wearing Pink Grapefruit today, and the multicolor effect makes for a bizarrely natural finish. These also last forever because they're powder."

"I thought it was going to be a little bit lighter and less pigmented. It's a pretty color, but it seems like it's maybe a little bit dark for me, a little bit ruddy. I feel like I went a little too heavy-handed with the blush. It definitely has a bit of a sheen to it. You can see it doesn't really need highlighter or anything. Where my crow's foot is, it kind of skipped over that. I guess I was smiling when I put it on and so there's like a little break in it there. So it's okay."

"I tried the Laura Geller Baked Blush-n-Brighten in pink buttercream, and it was really pretty. I felt like I put on too much of it because it's very pigmented. Even though it doesn't look super dark on my finger, when I dipped my brush in and put it on, it was just too dark for me, too ruddy. It didn't seem to really blend super great, but it was really pretty looking."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
