What the gurus are saying

The dry, non-tacky texture makes this stick ideal for reapplying sunscreen over makeup without disturbing it, and the mineral formulation works especially well around sensitive eyes where chemical sunscreens might irritate. Gurus praise its practicality for midday touch-ups and as a gentle eye-area option for those who find other sunscreens bothersome near the eyes.

"The texture is much harder, so it's easy to apply around the eyes because of that powder texture. It sticks differently from liquidy lightweight sunscreen. A lot of them are mineral based and water resistant like this one is 80 minutes water resistant. I always say four to five swipes over an area is an adequate amount."

"The MD Solar Sciences Solar Stick SPF 40, [...] the color science is all mineral. [...] This is a great product for two purposes. If you have really sensitive eyes and you want to wear a chemical sunscreen on the rest of your face, you can use a stick, especially a very gentle mineral stick, around your eye area. That way you still get coverage around the eye area, which is very important to protect. [...] We're always getting sunburned right in this area and you get lots of discoloration here."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Vitamin C

Topical vitamin C is an antioxidant with reasonable evidence for dullness and uneven tone. It breaks down in light and air, so how a product is formulated and packaged matters as much as the percentage on the front.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.
