What the gurus are saying

Booster mode is the setting that keeps coming up, with several reviewers finding it helps skincare sink in. Fans also like its fun factor and its value for several tools in one, but a few doubt the collagen claims and some would rather put the money into microneedling. The one thing to keep in mind: the results depend on a solid routine, so start on the lowest microcurrent level and work up.

"I use some of these, like red light therapy and microcurrent tools. I have the Medicube Boost Pro and I like them, but I think they're good if you add them into a skincare routine that's already evidence based and that you're consistent with. If you're just starting out and that first 300 bucks is all you have, I wouldn't spend it on that."

"I am also liking this microcurrent device by Medicube. I am not using it so much to define the jaw and chin as I am using it on my whole face and neck to help the skincare I put on soak in deeper, and it also has a little bit of ATP production."

"On a side by side comparison it wasn't really close. This one kind of blew the other one out of the water, so this is the one that I use now. I still use my other devices if this one is out of battery or if I'm traveling, I won't bring this big contraption with me, but you can see this is a little bit more chiseled."

"This little tool here, the Age-R Booster Pro, this is the mini version, the travel version. This is huge in South Korea. It's the little microcurrent, it has red light and blue light, and it zaps into your pores, opens a little channel, and then your skin care absorbs really quickly."

"I love EMS for the body. Medicube makes a great microcurrent device that also has EMS, that's the one I did the other day where your whole face is kind of moving. Those are great for your body as well, you just need to make sure you have a conductive gel. [...] If you're using it and you're not feeling the muscle twitch and you're not feeling any tingling, you don't have enough conductive gel on."

"Overall, I really like this device because it really does combine a lot of the different features that you would find on separate devices into one, which actually makes it a pretty good deal. You can really experiment with these different modes and the different intensities of them to figure out what is your favorite, what you like to do, and what's going to give you the best results for your certain skincare goals. And those goals change all the time, right?"

"Booster mode is probably the one that I use the most and it's my favorite, and for me booster mode really boosts the glow. [...] Incorporating this over the last couple of months, booster mode does what it says, it boosts those results. But at the end of the day, this is not responsible for my skin's glow-up - my skincare routine is responsible. If you have a good strong core skincare routine in place, this will help."
VIRAL K-Beauty I ✨DO✨ Recommend!
"I will say I do like this, I do think that it is worth it if you know what you're getting yourself into. My anti-hype review of this is that it's a booster, and I want to emphasize that. It's [...] not a miracle product, it's not the sole thing you're going to invest in that is going to transform your skin instantly. This is something that, paired with the right skincare products for your skin concerns, can boost the benefits, boost the results, and get you there faster."
~Nay
"There's nothing wrong with this device per se, but if you have the money and you buy one device, in my judgment, my research, micro needling is going to be the best for your skin. [...] I'm not exactly sure that there's any setting on the Medicube that actually does anything deep down to help with collagen. [...] I have not found success with the new face or many other devices."
~Yay
"Out of all of the products from Medicube, the one that I would recommend is actually this one."

"I barely use this tool, to be honest with you, and I've only used it on level one. With a beard it's not very comfortable, so I personally do not use this tool that often. It's also not great for my rosacea. But a lot of people love this product, a lot of people have seen great effects from it. Haley Bieber helped it go extra viral, it's a well-loved device and it has gone truly viral on TikTok."
~Yay
"I bought this with my own money, I wouldn't be talking about it unless I didn't love it. It's basically a six-in-one device, it does so many different things, but I find myself using the very first mode, which is the booster mode. It basically helps your skincare go deeper into the skin, and honestly I've noticed a huge difference in the overall appearance of my skin. I've also been using the microcurrent level, I only use it on the lowest level, I'm working my way up to the higher levels."
~Nay
"There's nowhere on their website that says the technology is any different from other devices, so in my opinion it's just more marketing, [...] it seems like it's the same technology just different devices so they can sell you more devices. I used it and I did feel like my skincare products were penetrating my skin more, but what I didn't like is there isn't a lot of information on what it's really doing for your skin besides that. Is it actually stimulating any collagen? Is it too strong?"
~Yay

"I've been using the Booster Pro [...] for years without problems, but when I used it with the collagen jelly cream, which contains fragrance, [...] my face reacted badly. It hurts. My [...] dryness went up 13 points, and I'm discontinuing use of this combination. I'm not blaming the device itself, but fragrance is a real problem for my sensitive skin."

"Truth be told, I really have loved my Medicube Booster Pro. I love and use the daylights out of that device, and I feel like it helps with increasing the absorption of skincare products, and it's just really fun to use. Alas, for me, I would not repurchase the Booster Pro. I'm so glad they came out with the mini."
Skincare Devices I Still Use (& Devices I Regret!)
"I absolutely love the Medicube Booster Pro because it's an electroporation device that helps you get more from your favorite skincare products. I [...] don't love some of the claims, [...] they market it as five in one or six in one, and with the moving LED lights you don't know the intensity or how long it's staying in one spot, so I don't think you can count on that."
Medicube Booster Pro in Trouble: Thoughts from a BIG Fan!
"I will say I don't use it close to my eye area. [...] I've been using this specific device for over a year, almost every day, almost always on the five setting, and personally I'm happy with my results. So will I keep using this? Yes, absolutely. It's not a case where everybody who buys this is going to absolutely love it, since I've seen other creators who don't particularly like this device, but I think it's very, very unlikely that it causes Bell's palsy."
ULTA Love Your Skin Sale: My Picks AND What to Skip!
"A lot of people ask about the Medicube Booster Pro, which is Korean skincare technology. Medicube used to be so bad about verbalizing what their technology was, thank goodness they're finally using the word electroporation, and that to me is what this device is. I love that device, though I just see it as something different from the NuFace, since it has two probes. It's very hard to say exactly how it compares because Medicube isn't great at sharing how they develop their device."
What Happened to My Black Friday Orders From Last Year? Looking Back!
"I bought the Booster Pro the second it released in the US, back in February. I use the booster mode ninety percent of the time, which is designed to increase penetration of your skincare ingredients, and I genuinely feel I see more results from any product, including really inexpensive ones, when I use this device. [...] I would buy this again. [...] This is in my opinion the best device Medicube has ever released. I love it dearly."
Best Korean Skincare BRANDS! (2024)
"When I first heard about the Booster Pro I was scared it would be all flash and no substance, but they pulled it off, they actually made a device that's somehow even better than the original Booster H, which I was already a big fan of."
Revisiting VIRAL Korean Skincare: Have My Opinions Changed?!
"I loved the original and unsurprisingly I love the Pro, which I bought mainly because I wanted slightly better absorption versus the Booster H. They claim it's a 6-in-1 device, and I feel like it's a little weak relying on this for [...] the sixth thing, the vibrations, but the electroporation, the dermal shot mode, and even the microcurrent, I am actually using all of those, which surprised me."
AM Skincare Routine: How I Include the Medicube Booster Pro!
"I like the Booster Pro so much, and originally the first booster device they had, because I want more from these relatively inexpensive products. [...] A device is only worth it if you're going to use it. Where I've seen a lot of people get frustrated with the Medicube device is that some serums you apply just immediately disappear into your skin, so my trick is to layer a heavier serum on top so everything glides on nicely."
NEW Skincare: Did Purito Lie, Sephora Comparisons, & More!
"I absolutely love the Medicube Booster Pro, though that was pretty predictable since I loved the original. It also feels nicer in your hand, [...] an upgrade in every sense, the booster and the airshot always felt light and plasticky and this one feels more hefty and luxurious. I feel like I see better results from any skincare products I pair it with, especially peptide rich humectant formulas, though I have to be cautious not to use it with active ingredients."
My 5 BEST Skincare Devices, Ranked by Results, Science, & Safety!
"I've used it on the lower portion of my face, where the bigger muscles are, and I feel I've seen more definition for my muscles from it. There was a study that found EMS [...] depletes ATP, which could be a concern since increasing ATP is the whole point of these devices, but [...] reputable companies [...] research their devices and set them to safe levels, and it's on the customer not to overuse them."
My FAVORITE Skincare Brands (& Products!)
"I was scared of it, this is a radio frequency device and I'd heard horror stories around radio frequency, but there's a big difference between a clinical level device and a home device, and all I can say is I'm so happy with the results from this, I love it, I love using it. I've had it for a little over two years and it still works just as well as day one, and that's what proves to me these are high quality devices."
Medicube Booster Pro vs Thome Glow Signature: the results are in!
~Mixed
"I honestly would buy this device just for the electroporation technology alone, because one of the biggest reasons why skincare products don't work is they don't get enough concentration into the skin past the stratum corneum, and by aiding it through this device, you can actually make your skincare products work better. However, I have strong opinions about this device because I think the benefits come from only a part of the technology."

"The price is down from 480 to 220, so it's a very giftable item, a very popular item. Although I don't think all of the technology makes sense, I think some of it does, and to be quite honest, it's a lot of fun for people to use. It's very visual and I think a lot of people will enjoy it. [...] Electroporation does help your ingredients penetrate more into the skin. There are plenty of studies to show that that's true. The rest of the features are somewhat sus."

"I'm actually a huge fan of microcurrent technology. I personally use the Medicube Age-R Booster Pro for it because I feel like there's more options in one device rather than the New Face, where that's kind of the only feature it has. But regardless of how you're getting microcurrent technology delivered into the skin, it is really beneficial and definitely a great way to start out the day."

"When I first started using this one, I was so ready to not hop on the bandwagon because I am the last person to buy into hype. Usually, if a product's really overhyped, I am not afraid to be the one person that's critical of it. But I have to say, this has won me over. I feel like there's a reason it is so viral and why so many people use it. This is going to be a part of my nighttime skincare routine forever."

"As much as I was resistant to it, I was absolutely blown away by how much I loved this device, and [...] to this day there are only two devices that I stand by, and this is one of them. I also love that it incorporates LED therapy on a timer mode, so even if I only have a little bit of time to get ready, I can still get at least some skin tool treatment."

"What I like the most about this device is specifically the combination of EMS as well as a microcurrent combo. EMS stands for electrical muscle stimulation and that actually contracts your deeper muscles, giving your face a more sculpted and snatched vibe, but at the same time, the microcurrent [...] helps to support your skin energy and radiance. It's a nice tag team together for overall rejuvenation and definition."

"I am still loving from Medicube their Age-R Booster Pro. This is more for the superficial layer of the skin, so I tend to use this when I feel my skin just doesn't look great. And it's actually fun to use during my routine, and this helps really boost the overall appearance of my skin."

For a long time with devices other than like a few beeps or buzzes, you can't feel that there's anything happening, but with this you really can. I feel like I was on a really good run with this, with the tightening, firming, glowing. Of course everything came to an abrupt halt in the beginning of the month. "It's the one I am using all the time. I'm going to review this pretty thoroughly because there is a lot going on here. Booster Pro has four different modes, and three of those modes are upgraded versions of their previous individual devices: booster mode, microcurrent mode, derma shot mode, air shot mode, each with levels one through five. You can use all four modes, and this device can be used with your own skincare."

"I love all the modes. Even though you can use every single one in a single routine, I don't do that all the time, I will always use two though. I also like that the cycles are pretty quick, five minutes each. Shot air shot mode is definitely not an everyday thing for me, it's something that I'll do every few days, maybe twice a week. This is for core care, I do feel the difference. This is something that you use on dry skin after cleansing."

"Recently I've been obsessed with Medicube's new Age-R Booster Pro. It's really quite different and very leveled up from their previous booster. It has four different modes: booster mode, microcurrent mode, derma shot mode, and airshot mode, each with five levels. The one I'm using, which is great to use after your final layer, is the derma shot mode."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Source: DermNet

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Source: DermNet

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
