What the gurus are saying

Its jelly texture splits the gurus: some find it fun to apply, with a dewy glow, while many call it heavy, sticky and Vaseline-like, especially for oily or combo skin. Fragrance and reactions come up often, including rosacea flare-ups, so sensitive skin may want to be careful. It works as a base under the Booster Pro, though other products are seen as better for that job.

"The jelly cream really does look like jelly. It was really fun to apply and I actually didn't expect to like it as much as I did. The fragrance was much more toned down and very nice, sensorial experience applying it, and it wasn't overwhelming. After applying it, after each hour, I felt like that glow was sustained. My skin is a bit oilier than hers and it was really nice to just run my fingers over my forehead because it was just gliding over it like baby smooth skin."

"I have become a fan of this. It could be a little gimmicky with collagen being used in the name because collagen in a moisturizer almost seems like it doesn't do anything longterm. It's kind of deceiving because it's not going to rebuild collagen. It's really just there to help firm and plump your skin. [...] It looks fun and is fun to apply. It leaves my skin with a nice dewy glow as well. [...] I would be careful if you're acne prone or if you have active acne and really oily skin."

"This has the highest hydration level of all sixteen moisturizers I tested, but it feels almost like Vaseline. I cannot understand why people love this. If you have oily combo skin you will really hate it, it just feels like putting on Vaseline. It has a thick, occlusive texture but I do not feel like it is actually moisturizing on the inside. It is just a viral product, so if you only listen to one thing from me, save your money and skip this one. It is the worst of all the products I tried."

"I reviewed the Medicube jelly cream last year and it's still so hyped on social media, so I tried it again and I hate it so bad, it's too heavy and too sticky. If you have oily or combo skin, stay far away. It's more like Vaseline, it feels oily and sticky on your skin for three or four hours, so you can only wear it at home and never before makeup. Unless you have really mature, thin, dry skin in your fifties or sixties, please skip it and don't waste your money."
Is VIRAL TIKTOK skincare *Worth the HYPE?* | BRUTALLY HONEST REVIEW
"The formulation is heavy but it is not effective enough to change the skin. You can only use it at night because of the texture, not for oily or combo skin, only for very dry skin in winter, and only if you don't toss and turn too much in your sleep, because even an hour after applying it, it still feels like honey, very sticky, so it ends up all over the pillow."

"You really need to avoid fragrance in all your skin care. [...] For skin of color please avoid this product."

"It's sticky and tacky. I didn't really find it to be amazing as far as a moisturizer. [...] I didn't see a noticeable difference using the collagen jelly with or without the device. The texture may appeal to people, but I have reservations about this product for a few reasons. There's fragrance in it, and fragrance is a common allergen in skincare products and it can be irritating."

"I just don't think you should buy this at all if you don't plan to use it with the Booster Pro. It does make a decent buffer for the Booster Pro, but [...] these products accomplish what the jelly cream was trying to do, but better. The jelly cream contains fragrance, which is a real problem for my sensitive skin, and it caused a reaction on my face."

Trying Hyped FLOP K-Beauty Products :(
"This is such a heavy product. [...] It does make a good base for the booster pro. I will give them that. That said, I just feel like there are so many better products on the market for that. The Experiment Super Saturated serum, very stretchy serum, absolutely love that one. This just feels heavy on my skin. It does have fragrance in it and a lot of it too. [...] I hate how my skin feels right now."

"When I use this pink collagen cream, I was meant to be going to an event. I did go. I wore a lot of makeup, but my skin was hot. It was [...] raining, it was cold. Hydrolyzed collagen always seems to be a guaranteed for me [...] to flare up my rosacea. When it does flare up, my rosacea flares up to the point where it burns and is almost painful. I can guarantee you hydrolyzed nano collagen hyaluronic acid is on that ingredient list. It's the only consistent thing. [...] I'm so disappointed."

"This pretty viral Medicube Collagen Jelly Cream ruined my skin for about a week. Immediately after use my skin looked incredible, glowy and well hydrated, but two hours later it had reacted badly. I am not totally sure what happened, but one of its selling points is freeze dried hydrolyzed collagen, broken down small so it penetrates deeper, and I think my skin has a problem with ultra low molecular weight ingredients."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Source: DermNet

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
