What the gurus are saying

Those little cream blobs floating in clear gel split the gurus right down the middle. Fans love the dewy glow and the rich feel on dry, mature skin, and say the stickiness fades in about three minutes. Skeptics find it tight again within an hour, dismiss the PDRN claims, and say oily skin does better with a plain gel moisturizer. A normal amount over the whole face is enough.

"A Medicube pink PDRN cream is not sterile and it is not medical grade. It's great for topical use, but it's not great to microneedle into the skin."

"Like I said, that triple whammy of benefits. You want your moisturizer to do the most. You want your moisturizer to brighten up your skin. You can get a lot of benefit from one product right here just with that niacinamide. Or if you have multiple needs from your moisturizer, maybe you like something lighter for the day and something a little bit more moisturizing at night. You might be able to get all of those needs in one jar. Might save you some money."

"I do notice a little bit more of that moist, dewy, glass-skin finish, if you will. Sometimes this finish can be quite tacky and sticky, and I will admit there is a little bit, but it's not that much. The more it absorbs into my skin, the more that starts to go down. As I've been testing it, I haven't been finding it to be too sticky, at least not for much longer than about three minutes. But I do like the glow that this gives."

"If you have one of the Medicube devices, I love the pink packaging and it is fun to apply it together with the gel and the capsules. The hydration level is pretty good, around a 2.7, and it feels more moisturizing than the plainer options. It is a little expensive, but you should not skip a product just because it is not the cheapest. For my dry, mature skin, and as a gift, I would pick the Medicube capsule cream."

I Tested 10 NEW Viral K-Beauty Products — Which Ones Are ACTUALLY Worth It?
"This cream has capsules of gel and cream together. At night I applied it and it ended up being too much gel, so it felt too sticky on the pillow. You don't have to use as many of the little capsules as they show on TikTok, a normal amount over the whole face is totally fine and gives pretty good hydration. It's a bit expensive though, you could just buy another moisturizer instead. It's kind of fun to use but it's too much work, still, between the two options I tried, I'd pick this one."

"It's really just a gel and cream capsule mixed together, they just make it look cute in pink and yellow so it's very social media friendly, but it's not that special. I think Medicube is a good marketing company, not a cosmetic company. If you have dry skin you might prefer this thicker cream, but for oily skin you're better off with a normal gel moisturizer. Honestly, it's not worth it."

"But OMG, this is definitely the best product I've tried. Since it has a capsule ball I recommend using it with a spatula rather than your hands. It's a gel cream which has a vitamin C capsule ball in it, it has a scent and it's pretty good. Apply it at night and touch your skin the next day, it gets really soft. Highly recommend for dry or mature skin over 40 years old. In the summer I use it every other day because it's a little rich, but I think I will use it every day when it gets cooler."

"I like it. I do like it. My issue with this cream in particular is that it's just not moisturizing enough. When it initially goes on, it does feel nice and moisturizing. Ooh, my skin really enjoys this. It feels moisturized and hydrated. But an hour later, your skin's feeling tight again. No matter how many of those collagen capsules you've used, it just feels very tight."

"The capsule cream in particular has me curious because I love these kind of moisturizers. I really like how you can customize it based on your skin type. [...] I'm still really looking forward to using this. But if you've used it, let me know. I'm nearly ready for a new moisturizer, but is it worth even diving into?"

Are These Viral K-Beauty Products Really Worth The Hype?!
"I'm annoyed at myself because I don't think I'm giving Medicube an extra hard time. But they're all over my TikTok and people are overly singing the praises of this brand, and I find a lot of their products to be quite average, including this one. It all seems to blend into one. While it's not leaving a film on the skin, it feels a little sticky on me. I think the gel cream part dries down a little too quickly for me, and it reminds me of an old-fashioned gel cream I'd use as a teenager."

"I would not associate this PDRN formula with the actual PDRN used in the famous clinical application using salmon sperm DNA. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that what they use has no benefit to the skin. A lot of times there is. The fact is, I would have gotten this and loved this with or without the PDRN on it."

"I love a glow, but this is too much. I remember one time using this and walking out, catching a glimpse of myself in a reflection, and my skin looked so sweaty. It was that kind of glowiness. [...] This is not a cream. I've always described it as a mask. It makes your skin look like it's made of wax. [...] The texture is more of a normal gel texture, which you'd be happy to know. [...] I do try to manage how much gel to cream ratio I use."

"They gave us this Medicube AGE-R Capsule Cream. If you have not heard my PDRN rant, it is a scam. PDRN is not it. It's just so unfeasible to think that would ever work in skincare. [...] The hero ingredient in this is 5% niacinamide. It's [...] the B vitamin that single-handedly is carrying the skincare industry."

Dermatologist Skincare Empties: What I’d Actually Buy Again
"It has the consistency of ultrasound jelly, a bit. It's very hydrating, and it's a nice moisturizer. You may wonder how [...] I went through it so fast. I used it on my face at night, and my neck, for about one or two weeks, and then I decided to use it on the rest of my body too. The fun thing about this is that I think a tween or a teen would enjoy it, because [...] the formula has these little blobs within it of a thicker, opaque cream dispersed amongst a clear, colorless gel."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Source: DermNet

Ceramides

Ceramides are part of the skin's own barrier, and moisturisers built around them have evidence for holding water in and settling the tightness and flaking that come with a damaged barrier.

Source: DermNet

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
