What the gurus are saying

Gurus split sharply on this one: it hardens and dries so intensely that skin felt tight and overstimulated, yet praise went specifically to its pore-tightening power. The AHA and BHA offer only minor benefit against the excessive hardening and stimulation. Those with dry or sensitive skin should definitely patch-test first, and consider using it just occasionally rather than regularly.

"This is the most hydrating combo you will ever find. I would say it's the most hydrating product I have ever tried, ever. For those days where you need maximum turbocharged hydration, this is it. If you're somebody that has persistently dry skin that you're struggling to get on top of, this will work for you. If you're somebody like me that tends to get dry skin when you incorporate a new active, I started Tazarotene recently and that definitely caused some dryness in my skin. This fixed it."

"I think other than that, Medicube is a great aesthetic brand. It's a fun brand. It's a young, quirky brand. But when it comes to formula efficacy, it has a long, long way to go. Except for one product, which is their pore mask with the blue one that I love."

"It works fast, three to five minutes, and comes with a convenient tube and spatula. But as soon as I put it on I felt so dry, it hardens so quickly and excessively that you can see all the pores and feel it sticking hard to the skin, way too much stimulation. After washing it off my skin felt tight and dry. It does have AHA and BHA which helps a little, but that is a really small advantage compared to the downsides."

"This is from Medicube and boy is this strong. I don't usually use it on my face. I use it on my neck. You never want to use it over your thyroid. [...] It is like a high dose of microcurrent or literal electrical current, and it literally makes my skin jump and it feels so good."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Peptides

Peptides are short protein fragments meant to signal repair. The evidence for them is thinner than for retinoids or vitamin C, and it varies a lot by the specific peptide, so the category is more promising than proven.
