What the gurus are saying

This jelly tint stains right where it lands and dries so fast there is little room to blend, which reviewers keep coming back to. Opinions split, since some found it fun and easy while others called the application blotchy and the color unflattering. Dry patches cling and look patchy, so those with dry skin may want to consider their skin that day, while oilier skin tends to wear it longer.

"The biggest makeup fail was this little Milk Makeup Cooling Water Jelly Tint blush. It's like a jelly. The thing is that it stains whatever it touches exactly where it touches it. And there's no spreading it. There's no blending it. Let's say I put like just a little bit on the back of my hand here and then really quickly try to blend it out. There is no blending. It just dries so fast."

"Please don't buy this one, save your money, I just don't like the color. [...] I have rosacea and if I put this on it I just look like a clown. I don't think the color is pretty, [...] it just looks so cheap."

"I did pick it up in the shade Chill but this is just very blotchy on the skin. I've tried applying this many different ways with a brush with my finger with a beauty blender, applying it directly onto my cheek and blending it in or using a brush to grab from the product itself then apply it to my skin and every method of application was the same very blotchy and it moves the foundation underneath. I really didn't like that so unfortunately for me it was a fail."

"I'm wearing their Milk Makeup Cooling Water Jelly Tint in the shade Burst. [...] It's such a beautiful formula and I love the color. It's really really light so it's perfect for my skin."
✕Mixed
"I think it's a really, really nice product. I think it's really fun. If you have any kind of dry texture in the area you want to apply the blush tint, it will cling to dry areas and show up patchy. So maybe consider what your skin is like on that day. For oilier skins, it'll be quite nice and should last a lot longer. [...] It stains quite well. [...] It applies well in certain ways. Some people who consider themselves maybe not good at makeup might have a little bit of a learning curve with it."
✕Mixed
"If that's not your vibe, you're obviously not going to really enjoy this, but if it is, it's definitely a very high quality lip and cheek stain that I think you're going to have a lot of fun with. It's going to be easy to apply, so if you do choose to buy it and this is your vibe, I think you won't be disappointed. I came in as a little bit of a skeptic and I left as a fan of this formula and actually a fan of this color specifically."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
