What the gurus are saying

This bargain-priced mask impresses with a creamy, lightweight formula and delivers visible results at a fraction the cost of comparable products. However, anyone with thin hair may find it weighs strands down significantly and flattens volume, a real concern for those needing weightless products. A couple of gurus found the smell off-putting, but most didn't let that sway them from valuing the results and price.

"I put it in my hair and I thought it smelled so bad that I actually when I went to get my haircut shortly afterwards I apologized in advance. Although it might be helpful for your hair health in general with some just generally helpful ingredients like it's oil, squalling, argan oil, amino acids, that's all fairly legitimate in terms of hair health, the smell was off-putting. So this is not my best, it's towards my worst. Would I use it? Maybe if I needed it, but I would not enjoy it."

"I'm in love with it. This is also an Indian brand which is great for multiple reasons but it's also inexpensive. It's so inexpensive, it's so good. [...] This is the malic acid Bond Repair Complex and this is a hair mask that goes on my strands. [...] This hair mask is so good, it's creamy, it's inexpensive, it's lightweight and it works for my hair when it's curled or when it's styled like this. [...] You put it on and you rinse it off."

"I do recommend the Minimalist Bond Repair. [...] As a product it is good, but it is not a [...] dupe for Olaplex. [...] This is very similar to the K18 Bond Repair treatment. If you're looking for a product that gives you that and is like less than half, one fourth the price, like this is 500 rupees, then I would highly recommend you try this one. It's not a bad product. [...] This is something that I highly highly recommend."

"The pros of this product are it smoothens the hair strands, it reduces frizz, it adds more shine to the hair and makes the hair look more healthy. The cons are it can weigh your hair down, so if you have thin hair then you will feel that the volume is gone and that your hair is looking a little flat. [...] A hair mask is a thick moisturizer, so if you have dry frizzy hair, color treated hair, damaged hair then you want to use a hair [...] mask."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Ceramides

Ceramides are part of the skin's own barrier, and moisturisers built around them have evidence for holding water in and settling the tightness and flaking that come with a damaged barrier.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
