What the gurus are saying

The patches stay put so well that people forget they are on, and they make a pimple less visible without the cakey, flaky look that foundation or concealer can leave. They also help draw impurities out of flat, deep blemishes and curb picking, which matters since picking can leave indented scars that are hard to treat. However, they do not control acne overall, and some gurus advise against wearing them every day.

"Neutrogena's patches are excellent. They stay on the skin really well, and you completely forget you have them on. The other reason I like them is that they offer a bit of cosmetic camouflage. They make the pimple less visible. They don't completely block it out or cover it up, but if you've ever had one of those pimples that you try to cover up with foundation or concealer, you know it can end up making it look even worse, getting all cakey and flaky."

"I was showering at night and I would put this patch on my face so that it would last 12 hours on my face, ideally it's really like 5 and a half if I'm telling you the truth. It helps to suck it out when a blemish is flat and deep or a pimple is flat and deep. You're never going to get the gunk out completely with a hydrocolloid patch, it just doesn't work that way."

"I like the Neutrogena ones, they're just hydrocolloid, they don't have any active ingredients. Put a pimple patch on clean skin and then do your adapalene gel on your entire face. The pimple patch will help draw the inflammation so when you wake up in the morning the pimple will not be nearly as red and the swelling should go down."

"I love the plain hydrocolloid ones. [...] Personally, Neutrogena hydrocolloid pimple patches are some of my favorites. They go on really good, they stay really nice. I will just remove them in the morning after cleansing your face and completely drying it. You apply the patches just on the active pimples."

"Pimple patches, they're everywhere now, they're easy to find. You can find some with salicylic acid, with Tea Tree oil, or just plain hydrocolloid ones are my favorite. Neutrogena has some really nice ones. Put them on before you go to bed after you wash your face, sleep with them. You will be surprised how that pimple has shrunk overnight."

"Neutrogena makes some pimple patches, those are all fine to use. Those hydrocolloid patches that prevent you from picking at them, because I can tell when a patient has been picking I see this angulated triangular shaped scab on the forehead, on the cheeks. I can tell when you're picking and those are really tough, you know, those atrophic indented scars that you develop there, those are so tough to treat."

"I have no problems with it. The technology is fine. Hydrocolloid patches they really do draw out the impurities, maybe some purulence. It doesn't control your acne, it will just help treat the particular area or protect it. I say it's more for protection because some people, a lot of my patients like to pick at their acne and that's called acne excoriation."

"Neutrogena's stubborn acne line has come out with acne hydrocolloid patches that basically make smaller ones but also larger ones that will cover like a good part of your cheek and chin. These are great for individuals that really break out in large areas and have multiple acne going on. I wanted to treat all of that surface area without having to apply like five or six different patches at the same time. This is relatively affordable, I think it's about like $10 in drugstores."

"The Neutrogena one is great. I think it's extremely straightforward and simple. I like the ones that contour to your nose because it targets the pimple area or the acne-prone skin, but it can still be a reactive way to remove oil. So I love the nose contour for those Neutrogena ones."
