What the gurus are saying

Fermented ingredients and probiotics earn praise for working well across different skin types. The toner is light and gentle, with a subtle fragrance that most people find unnoticeable. Gurus report seeing visible benefits from regular use, though if you're sensitive to fragrance at all, a patch test first makes sense.

"I also have an order the Numbuzin number three that you guys recommended, it's a fermented hydrating toner and I'm so excited to try it. I would say in my fall video four maybe five of you recommended this brand and recommended this specific hydrating toner, which is a fermented toner. If you're looking for fermented products definitely peek at the ingredient decks. I learned something new this week that there are different types of ferments that address different skincare concerns."

"This is actually the newest Numbuzin toner product that I've tried out of everything in this video, and honestly, it's really growing on me and I've already seen some nice benefits from it. For me personally, [...] the combination of the two exfoliants is really chef's kiss. It's exactly what I need because I am so prone to clogged pores. [...] The betaine salicylate has really helped to lessen the bumpiness and the feeling of them."

"The first one I'm going to mention is the Numbuzin No.3 toner which a lot of people absolutely love. It contains grape lactobacillus ferment as a probiotic ingredient and also contains a ton of other ferments. It has a little bit of fragrance in it, so it's super light and not terribly noticeable, but it works well for a lot of people."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

    Salicylic acid

Salicylic acid dissolves in oil, so it can get into a pore rather than just working on the surface. That is why it has long-standing evidence for blackheads and milder acne.

    Urea

Urea both holds water in the skin and gently loosens dead surface cells. At higher strengths it has good evidence for very dry or thickened skin.
