What the gurus are saying

This powder enzyme cleanser combines rice powder, corn starch, and papain enzyme for gentle exfoliation, but the walnut fragments and fragrance divide opinion. The soft buffing action earns praise for protecting the skin barrier and allowing safe, frequent use, particularly valued for aging skin concerned with inflammaging. However, the walnut fragments and fragrance are dealbreakers for those who would otherwise enjoy it.

"Papa Recipe has a slightly different texture, with larger powder particles and a hint of purple. The foam is still soft, but just like Suisai, it left my face red. Since it's a newer product, the ingredients seem a bit milder, making it slightly better, but I'd only recommend it for oily or combo skin, and only once a week at most."

"A lot of powder cleansers can tend to feel kind of stripping or abrasive on the skin and I don't get that at all with this cleanser. My skin feels so good. I'm definitely going to be using this powder cleanser again like that was a lovely experience."

"With daily or every other day use of this product, you get a really nice gentle exfoliation that is effective without the risk of overdoing it without destroying your skin barrier, which will lead to further issues. It also has rice water which helps hydrate and brighten skin, even out skin tone, and make you look fresher alongside soothing allantoin and hydrating glycerin."

"I'm so mad. [...] Even though this is a come to mama product I started using this powder exfoliator and I actually love this, and I kind of did love the scrubby-dubby feeling. [...] This has sake and the enzyme part is from papain from papayas, and it's at almost 2,000 parts per million in this product. [...] But it's also got fragrance which was kind of a disappointment since most of the other products didn't have it."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
