What the gurus are saying

2% salicylic acid, paired with lactic and glycolic acid, is the detail gurus keep returning to. Many call it a budget match for pricier BHA liquids at about $11, and the watery texture is best applied on a cotton pad. The one thing to keep in mind: it is a strong active, so people already using other actives may want to rotate it in rather than layer it.

"The Peach Slices one with the different blends of acids and lower concentrations along with other soothing ingredients potentially is a more gentle formulation. [...] If you struggle with pores or post acne marks, it would be very helpful in improving those concerns."

"This is the Peach Slices Acne Solutions Exfoliating Toner. I said before it was a great product and I [...] still think it is, it works well. The reason I can't finish it is because it's an active product made to target acne, and [...] I can't use all of my active products at once, it would be way too much on my skin and I'd end up constantly red and inflamed. So it just sits, because I tend to reach for a different BHA toner instead."

"One of my favorite exfoliants for oily skin is the Peach Slices Acne Exfoliating Toner. You don't have to have acne to benefit from this toner, but I think they call it an acne toner because it has 2% salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid and it's good at delving into the pores and breaking up those clogs within them because salicylic acid is much better than alpha hydroxy acids at removing oils from the skin."

"This Peach Slices Acne Exfoliating Toner is another great liquid salicylic acid treatment. It also has lactic acid which can soften and smooth the skin surface reducing certain types of skin bumps."

"An affordable alternative that I think is just as good is the Peach Slices Acne Exfoliating Toner, which likewise has two percent salicylic acid, and it's about 11 dollars at Ulta."

"The [...] Exfoliating Toner bears mention in this video as a standout because in my opinion this is a great dupe for the [Paula's Choice] BHA Liquid Exfoliant. Like that product, it is a liquid salicylic acid lotion product with alpha hydroxy acids—glycolic and lactic acid—to help exfoliate. It has centella, which is anti-inflammatory, and a very short ingredient list otherwise. The brand is cruelty-free and this product is vegan. [...] You can get it at CVS, Walmart, or Ulta."

"The Peach Slices salicylic acid acne treatment is a leave-on toner that I highly suggest if you find yourself wanting to use a leave-on product. It is a wonderful alternative, a lot more affordable alternative to the [Paula's Choice] BHA liquid exfoliant."
    ✓Yay
"This Peach Slices acne exfoliating toner has two percent salicylic acid with BHA and AHA to exfoliate skin and unclog pores. The ingredients look and appear to be very similar to the Paula's Choice BHA toner, and [...] they smell so similar as well. I love that they're both fragrance free. [...] Dr Dre is absolutely right if you're looking to spend 11 instead of like 30 something, Peach Slices is doing my wallet nice things. I'm very pleased with my purchase."
    ✓Yay
"It also has antioxidants like [...] green tea and [...] centella paired with really nice soothing ingredients. It [...] also has allantoin, citric acid, glycolic acid, and some fruit extract as well, so [...] you're getting a really nice formulation with more actives for your money. The only thing is it's like watery, so you do have to apply it on a cotton pad because if you put it in the palm of your hand it will just go everywhere. But as far as results go, it's really good."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Salicylic acid

Salicylic acid dissolves in oil, so it can get into a pore rather than just working on the surface. That is why it has long-standing evidence for blackheads and milder acne.

    Source: DermNet

    Alpha hydroxy acids

Alpha hydroxy acids loosen the bonds holding dead cells at the surface. The evidence supports smoother texture and more even tone over time, and they can leave skin more sensitive to sun.

Source: NIH, National Library of Medicine

    Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
