What the gurus are saying

Experts split on this serum. One finds little to recommend given the price, jar packaging, fragrance, and ingredient mix for acne-prone skin. Another appreciates the Cold Plasma line overall but ranks this neck-focused formula as her least favorite in the collection, preferring the serum and moisturizer instead. Not much of a consensus to go on yet.

"This one's not a must have, certainly given the price, the jar packaging, the fragrance, the ridiculous price, the ridiculous math on the small size jar sizes, the acneic ingredients. It's just nothing in here for me that I really ever want to test again. There's other Perricone MD products I'll certainly test and review, typically they're so expensive you don't get very excited about them, but if they're in a sale or something and maybe I'll pick something up in the future."

"I do like the cold plasma collection. I'm a little bummed to see it's the Sub-D neck item in this sale, that is my personal least favorite from the cold plasma collection, and I didn't feel like I also needed a separate neck cream, so I'm going to skip it. I really like the serum and I do like the moisturizer though."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Retinoids

Retinoids are among the best studied ingredients in dermatology, with solid evidence for acne and for the fine lines and rough texture that come from sun exposure. Dryness and flaking in the first few weeks are common and usually settle.

Vitamin C

Topical vitamin C is an antioxidant with reasonable evidence for dullness and uneven tone. It breaks down in light and air, so how a product is formulated and packaged matters as much as the percentage on the front.

Alpha hydroxy acids

Alpha hydroxy acids loosen the bonds holding dead cells at the surface. The evidence supports smoother texture and more even tone over time, and they can leave skin more sensitive to sun.
