What the gurus are saying

This ointment visibly softens calluses and rough patches, often within a single application, thanks to its blend of exfoliating acids and a rich occlusive base that locks in moisture. A key point: because it actively sheds dead skin, those on their feet constantly (runners, people who exercise daily) may want to ease back to two or three nights a week rather than nightly, as overuse can thin calluses enough to invite blisters. Apply to damp feet straight out of the shower, use a thin film, and cover with socks to let it work overnight.

"This is a foot ointment with some keratolytic ingredients to really actively help improve callous above and beyond simply lubricating the skin surface. It has urea which is a hydrating ingredient but also keratolytic. It also has salicylic acid which also helps to exfoliate buildup of callous. The urea in this [...] is also really good for the health of your nail plate, so like for your toenails for example. I really enjoyed this."

Is Prequel Skincare Worth It?
"If you're somebody who is looking to rejuvenate the look of your feet, try this out. I do caution you may want to be careful not to use it every single night because it does exfoliate that callous, and if you're someone like me who works out a lot, you run, you walk, you're on your feet a lot, you might find that using this every day cuts down on your callous to such a degree that you end up getting blisters. So I only use things like this a couple of nights a week."

"I also finished their foot ointment which I also liked it was a lot milder in comparison to Carousel which I use a couple of nights a week in fact the prequel foot ointment I found I was able to use nightly and I didn't get blisters it helped keep my feet smooth"

"This is a Urea foot cream similar to Carousel which I normally use. [...] I use about that much to the balls of my feet. I am noticing more separation now that I have made my way through quite a bit more of it."

"It is a fantastic foot cream. It has all the ingredients that you really should be using to tackle dry spots and patchiness and rough spots basically when it comes to your feet."

"This is truly the best foot product I have ever used and really the thing that makes this so exceptional is that you can see results in just one use. I almost never say that about a skin thing because the skin honestly takes a long time to respond to treatments but this works literally overnight. [...] This is a dense rich ointment that still spreads very easily and absorbs into the skin but I really wanted this to be thick enough that when you apply it it stays in place."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Salicylic acid

Salicylic acid dissolves in oil, so it can get into a pore rather than just working on the surface. That is why it has long-standing evidence for blackheads and milder acne.

Source: DermNet

Alpha hydroxy acids

Alpha hydroxy acids loosen the bonds holding dead cells at the surface. The evidence supports smoother texture and more even tone over time, and they can leave skin more sensitive to sun.

Urea

Urea both holds water in the skin and gently loosens dead surface cells. At higher strengths it has good evidence for very dry or thickened skin.
