What the gurus are saying

One expert found it genuinely effective at repairing colored hair and appreciated the paired shampoo and conditioner, though the high citric acid concentration means it's best used sparingly, around once a month, to avoid throwing hair's pH balance off. However, another expert felt it didn't deliver enough for the price and wouldn't repurchase, so there's real disagreement on whether this one's worth the investment.

"Recently genuine competitors have come into the market like k18 and redkin bonding"

"Does it work? Yes. [...] It works really well. [...] This is a product which they say you reduce it to once or twice a month, then you reduce it to once a month, and then you use it only as a treatment. It has a high level concentration of citric acid. It is recommended that you don't use it every week [...] because beyond a certain point alkaline levels you can have other problems, so this is a range that needs to be used carefully."

"I finished up the Redken Acidic Bond Repair Concentrate and ended up liking that. [...] It did what it's intended to do. It's not really meant for my hair per se but I saw benefit using it consistently. Took me a while to really appreciate how much of the difference it made."

L'Oreal....this is just bad
"I've been using this Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate as a leave-in conditioner. It's not really meant for my hair concerns, it's more geared to people who have had a lot of chemical processing or color treatment, allegedly it has a technology in it that's going to reapproximate disulfide bonds in the keratin and cut down on frizz. I've been using it now for about two weeks [...] and it's okay. It was kind of expensive for what it is."

"It actually worked. It did make my hair less frizzy, but it only lasted for like a day. The way you use this is you first wet your hair, then you put it on, then you leave it on for 10 minutes, then you wash your hair after. So it just added this extra time where you had to get in the shower, wet your hair, then either stand in the shower for a full 10 minutes with this on there, which is a lot of wasted water and a lot of standing around shivering for me. So I didn't like that."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Salicylic acid

Salicylic acid dissolves in oil, so it can get into a pore rather than just working on the surface. That is why it has long-standing evidence for blackheads and milder acne.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
