What the gurus are saying

The scent from its blend of fragrant oils, including lemonene, bergamot, citrus, and sage, is what stands out most with this cleanser. This product lands in middling territory on other fronts: nothing actively bad, but nothing particularly impressive, and the fragrance is the primary drawback. If you're sensitive to scent, the potency here is strong enough that it could genuinely be a dealbreaker.

"The Anua Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil and the Round Lab Dokdo Cleansing Oil are very similar in texture. They're super duper lightweight and watery, so if you don't like a heavy feeling, you will really like these. They do have either essential oils or fragrance, though, and retail for about 20 USD for 200 mils of product."

"My makeup artist friend who's oily combo loved it, especially paired with a cleansing device for pumping out blackheads, though using just my finger I didn't see that as much myself. Still, it cleanses so well and it's not as heavy as the Manyo one. I'd pick this for dry mature skin, and honestly if you're a newbie to cleansing oil, this one is better."

"This one is not that bad, I'd give it a B. Nothing really sucks about it but nothing is really amazing either, it just goes in the middle. It's not bad but nothing really stands out, and it has a bit of a scent I don't like that much."

"It's got some really nice ingredients: 18 bucks, avocado oil, grape seed oil, ceramides, and it's got a ton of amino acids as well, and it's got a really nice super lightweight formula. It's a really nice K-Beauty product, so definitely one worth checking out."

Impulse Buys & Regrets 🤦🏼‍♀️ Beauty Edition WTF Was I Thinking Purchases?!?!
"I looked at the ingredients and I still bought it. I have no idea why I shouldn't have. It's got so many different fragrant oils in it. Um, lemonene, bergamot oil, citrus oil, sage oil. Yeah, I knew I shouldn't have bought it and I still bought it. And it's very scented and I don't know. Somebody maybe will be able to take it off my hands at some point."
New Skincare from Dr Ceuracle, I'm From, Kaine, Dr Jart & More First Impressions Review
"I haven't even used it because I'm nervous about the limonene, linolool, bergamot oil, and sage oil. Maybe one of these nights I'll get bold and I'll try it on my body or something like that, which is less sensitive than my face. But I really thought this would be better formulated in terms of fragrance ingredients, especially given that the rest of the Dokdo line is super sensitive skin friendly."

"Round Lab Do Do cleansing oil was nominated as a disappointing product in this category."

"I've been really liking this cleansing oil because it has a ceramide, ceramide NP, but it also has primrose oil in it. And I think primrose oil is underrated. It's not used too much in skincare and it's one of those kinds of oils that I just really like because it's not super heavy. And I feel like it helps to unclog your pores versus clogging your pores, which I know that a lot of you get worried about when you tend to have acneic skin or you have skin that can get clogged pores."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Salicylic acid

Salicylic acid dissolves in oil, so it can get into a pore rather than just working on the surface. That is why it has long-standing evidence for blackheads and milder acne.

Ceramides

Ceramides are part of the skin's own barrier, and moisturisers built around them have evidence for holding water in and settling the tightness and flaking that come with a damaged barrier.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
