What the gurus are saying

This stick applies invisibly with a silky, powdery finish that many find better than waxy competitors, earning particular praise from those with oily skin for its mattifying control and sweatproof hold. However, gurus split sharply on practical use: some love it for touch-ups over makeup and portability, while others find the texture drags, moves existing makeup on reapplication, and offers insufficient coverage as a base sunscreen. The unapproved UV filter and comedogenic ingredient mean those with acne-prone skin may want to avoid it entirely, and it lacks water resistance, a gap that matters for active days.

"At some point, I also tried this Skin1004 stick, which was pretty good."

"No, you don't need this. Compared to sunscreen this is not even close, the coverage feels weak and half the time you're wondering if you actually applied anything or if you're imagining it. It drags over the skin like rubbing a solid bar of soap on your face, and it also moves all the skin care underneath it when you reapply. As your main sunscreen, absolutely not. Compared to Abib sun sticks, in shape, size, and glide, Abib wins."

"Again, with the sunscreen stick, they're so easy to carry around. This one has chemical/organic UV filters, but this is a Korean sunscreen, not a Korean-American. This is straight up from the motherland. Korea sunscreen, right? You can use this year round. [...] You might need to put a moisturizer on first and then you could use this year round. It has a natural finish. Super easy to carry around like this little, you just slap that in your bag. You could even use it to reapply over your makeup."

"It applies so easy. It controls the shine and helps almost like blur pores a little bit without clogging them. It's super lightweight, very similar to the other stick. I used them interchangeably depending which one I left in which purse when we went to golf meets. It applies over top of makeup really easy. The blush is still visible if you apply it on top of the makeup. It is infused with centella and hyaluronic acid to hydrate while also calming any irritation you may have going on."

"This is a chemical sunscreen. They've got dithal amino hydroxybenz hexile benzoate, which is not an FDA approved filter, so this is not going to be available in the US. They've also put in isopropyl palmitate which is three out of four on the comedogenic scale. So if you have oily acne prone skin, I'd tell you to avoid this product. For me, this is just going to be a no until this filter has been used for years and we have more data on it."

"This is actually a really good size, not too small and not too big, with a simple twist mechanism that rolls back down. [...] I like to use sun sticks exclusively for touch-ups rather than as my base sunscreen. [...] I do feel that this isn't the best over makeup, but it's also not the worst. In short, for me this is a good sunstick, a good to great option, though still not my absolute favorite."

"This one has such an interesting texture, stepping the pitfalls of waxy balmy greasy sun sticks. This does actually have a matte finish as well, but what's interesting about this is you apply it to your skin and it definitely feels silky when you're applying it. There's just a little hint of de, but not too much. I really feel like once it absorbs and the skin settles the de goes away, but it almost has like this airy powdery finish to it. I think oily skin types will adore this."

"If you're looking for a sunstick, the Hua is one of the best, not the best which we're going to talk about, but one of the best. It gives you a glow while giving you hydration and sun protection. Unfortunately it's not water resistant or waterproof which is unfortunate, but it does have hydrating ingredients."

"They've always left me feeling like I don't know what the point of them is. Some people like to use them for reapplication over makeup, but I've tried that and I still think it budges around and moves your makeup anyway. I also saw a video by Lab Muffin that said the amount of sunstick you actually have to apply to get a meaningful reapplication is ridiculous, so you're probably not going to be getting the great coverage that you think you're getting."

"I'm not the biggest fan of sunscreen sticks, I think they're fine but it's quite hard to get an even application. But if you're someone that loves a sunstick for that reapplication during the day that you can just throw in your handbag, I think this is probably the best on the market. Whilst I'm going to keep sticking to the original, I think for as some sticks go this is probably the best. [...] It's fragrance free but it doesn't smell too funky, it's just really nice."

"I like it because it truly looks absolutely invisible on your skin but this has a nice soft hydrated silkiness to the skin that I don't find in other ones, which is why I think people with a little bit drier skin would really like this one. It's one of the most popular sunscreens on TikTok. It's really good, a beautiful formula, no white cast, no pastiness, truly invisible on the skin but makes it feel so soft afterwards. It's really lovely. I highly recommend it."

"My oily skin feels a lot more controlled. If you're oily skinned like me and you find yourself having to reapply more regularly because you're constantly blotting your oily T-zone, this has such good oil control and sweatproof that you know that it lasts the recommended time before reapplication. Really really good one if you don't like, even if you're not oily and you just don't like the way constantly reapplying sunscreen looks because it can build up and get greasy."
