What the gurus are saying

This balm wins strong marks for effectiveness and is ranked among the very best lip balms reviewed, but the jar packaging makes it noticeably harder to dispense than the old stick format. Just a couple of gurus have weighed in so far, so there's not much of a track record yet, though what there is looks quite positive.

"SkinFix Barrier+ Lip Balm, this was an old one because now they have one in a jar, but this was one I just kept on my nightstand so in the middle of the night if my lips were dry I just kind of wipe it on and it did the trick. I like packages like this as opposed to the jar, especially for my nightstand, because otherwise if I'm half asleep in the middle of the night the jar will get, I will forget to screw it on or something like that and that'll get ruined."

"It's expensive and it's not impressive. I used to like SkinFix when they were packaged in this packaging and now they changed it to a jar packaging and it's really hard to get out. I only used it a couple times. It feels like scraping mud onto it. It's just [...] a jellish gelatinous texture, but when it's like super hard and hard to get out, [...] when you're applying it, it starts to crumble and then it makes a mess and I can't do that."

"The Skin Fix lip balm also works quite well. It's probably the next best one after the Dermal Therapy Lip Balm. I don't love their clean marketing, but this is actually quite a good product."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
