What the gurus are saying

This serum works fast at repairing very depleted moisture barriers, with reviewers seeing calmer, less flaky skin within a week or two. The trade-off: the creamy, lipid-rich texture can feel overwhelming or trigger congestion in people with combination skin or those prone to breakouts, so it may work best as a short-term intensive treatment rather than an everyday product. Those with genuinely compromised barriers tend to find the results impressive enough to repurchase despite the higher price.

"This serum was so so helpful. My skin was feeling quite dry and it immediately just mended up the peeling skin. I was very very impressed with this. I really do recommend this product for damaged moisture barriers, really vulnerable weak skin, skin that has been through it and needs repair. To me this isn't really a barrier maintenance product, you absolutely could use it that way, but it really is something that you reach for when your skin is in the worst state."

"I was very impressed with not only how this worked for my skin but how fast it worked. After week two I noticed that my skin was starting to get very congested while I had this in my skincare routine morning and night. I think this may not be an everyday type of serum for my personal skin. I am leaning very dry right now in the winter but I do have combination skin, and I am congestion prone, so I think this was just a little bit too much lipids, just a little bit too much emolliency."

"The triple lipid plus collagen and Niemi activating serum is essentially like a peptide hydrating serum with some skin plumping benefits and it also helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It's a lightweight creamy milky serum, not watery but also hydrating and nourishing at the same time, but yet will not leave your skin feeling super greasy, shiny or heavy."

"I use this as a nighttime moisturizer and I really like it. I like the pump on this because I can get every last bit out. I would repurchase this. It's pricey, but I would repurchase it. I was able to get three of these little samples through Sephora which ended up adding up to the size of the full size, which is like 70 or 80 bucks or something expensive, so I was pretty happy with that."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Alpha hydroxy acids

Alpha hydroxy acids loosen the bonds holding dead cells at the surface. The evidence supports smoother texture and more even tone over time, and they can leave skin more sensitive to sun.

Ceramides

Ceramides are part of the skin's own barrier, and moisturisers built around them have evidence for holding water in and settling the tightness and flaking that come with a damaged barrier.
